Perhaps the 'hard' truth you speak of is Mt 22:36-40 law law; And law worketh wrath thereof that God hath NOT appointed us unto.
The God of all comfort is no discomfort at all. Grace and truth thereof is firstly pure wisdom from above, which is also firstly "peaceable, gentle, and easily entreated" of seven things pure grace and all truth from God cannot lie is, in James 3:17.
There is nothing to fear nor anything to hate about the God of all grace is merciful. That God was in Christ reconciling the world.
