I think sodas are bad whether with or without caffeine. If you're worried about the caffeine getting them wired... how about the sugar?! Anyway... it's such an addiction that I'd rather not even let them have a taste. Soon enough you won't be able to control what they drink. The longer they don't know about it, the better.
I won't allow my kids to drink soda... water, juice, milk... that's it.

Pop and sweets in our house are treats, not every day things. The only time my kids get caffinated drinks is if we go out. Sodas can be bad for kids and adults too. That is why we limit it to a special occasion so they won't expect it.

I try to avoid caffeine in my children as well. Occassionally they get a coke for a special treat. One thing that I have noticed with kids is that so many of them don't want to drink water. There is so much to drink out there that is better for the kids and tastes great. They don't need soda. It's not even good for adults. I have devloped IBS. Now I can't drink a lot of soda.
Also, caffeine is chemical stimulant of the central nervous system. That doesn't sound very good for a little body. In short, you are right. But, it's not just kids who have adverse effects. It's adults too. (Something they carry now are decaf/diet sodas. I know it still has a lot of artificial junk but for the occassional treat, it's not bad.)

My 2 older kids were not allowed to have soda except on rare occasions till they were alot older. Unfourtuantely I am a pepsiholic and my youngest who is 12yrs old now was given more than the others when he was younger. Now that he's into cross country and wrestling I regret it cause I have had to really make him stop or really cut down and drink more beverages that are good for him.

My kids are 6 & 3 and I don't give them pop. They usually drink milk, juice, or water. They do on occasion get pop from Grandma but it isn't caffinated.

Caffeine is the only narcotic still legal in the markets. It IS a mental enhancement drug and it IS worse than sugar. Starting a child on caffeine will almost definately lead to an addiction later in life, coffee being the classic example.

We try not to let our daughter have to many sugary/caffinated drinks. Kids are hyper enough as it is. Her drink of choice is water then milk (organic).

I do not allow my kids to have caffeine at all. I will allow them the occasional sprite or root beer which are caffeine free, but other than that they are only allowed, juice, water or milk.
