Old Fashioned Pop Corn Balls
Notes:
Ingredients:
2 C. Granulated Sugar
1 1/2 C. Water
1/2 tsp. Salt
1/2 C. Light Corn Syrup
1 tsp. White Vinegar
1 tsp. Vanilla
3/4 tsp. Food Color (optional)
5 Quarts Popcorn (popped,no salt or butter added)
Preparation:
Lightly butter sides of a two quart sauce pan, add sugar, water, salt, syrup, and vinegar, mix well. Place on medium low heat stir mixture and bring to a boil. When mixture begins to boil place lid on pan and time for 30 seconds. Remove lid and replace your spoon with a fresh spoon, these steps help prevent syrup from crystallizing. If you would like to color syrup now is the time to add food color, stir. Cook mixture to a hard ball stage (250 - 266 degrees, or until syrup forms a hard ball although it’s pliable) stir time to time. When syrup reaches hard ball stage remove from heat add vanilla and then slowly pour over popcorn, stir until corm is coated. With lightly buttered hands form popcorn in to balls. When popcorn balls are cool wrap individual popcorn balls with plastic wrap.
The youngsters will need a little help forming the balls because of the syrup being pretty warm to the touch. The young at any age can not resist a Old Fashioned Popcorn Ball, and the memories of making them.

It's easier to make rice krispy balls just like rice krispy treats only shape them into a circle and use food color to make them orange then put a mini charlstonchew in the top as a stem. use mini chocolate morsels as eyes nose and mouth. Good Luck here is another idea maybe halloween ghosts. same technique as the pumpkins just no food color
Ghosty Rice Krispy Halloween Treats
3 tbsp. unsalted butter
10 oz. regular marshmallows, or 4 c. miniatures
6 c. Rice Krispies
Chocolate chips
Grease a 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan. Using a LARGE saucepan, over low heat, melt butter, then add marshmallows and stir frequently until melted. Remove from heat. Stir in cereal until coated. Press into greased pan using spatula or waxed paper. Cut into squares while they're still slightly warm and remove squares from pan. Now they are pliable and can be shaped into blobs. Add two chocolate chips for eyeholes, and you have Ghosty Rice Krispy Treats!

~*~Make Wild Popcorn Balls! Everytime I make them for my trick or treaters they go over really BIG! Just know that the word of your delicious wild popcorn balls will get around, so make plenty!!! Have a great Halloween!
WILD POPCORN BALLS
These popcorn balls are made at a cooler temp than most, making it safer for kids to help in making them. Flavors & colors can be as wild as any gelatin you can find on the store shelf. Fun to make; delicious & different to eat! Tip: make green & red ones for Christmas, orange ones for Halloween, etc.
9 c. popped popcorn
1 c. light corn syrup
1 pkg. (3-oz.) JELL-O gelatin, any flavor
1/2 lb. peanuts, coarsely chopped (optional)
1/2 c. sugar
Place popcorn in lightly buttered large bowl. Mix syrup & sugar in saucepan; bring to boil. Remove from heat. Add gelatin; stir until dissolved. Add peanuts. Pour over popcorn; mix well. Cool about 5 minutes, then shape into 2” balls. Makes: 1 1/2 dozen. Preparation Time: 30 minutes.
Helpful Hint: For ease in handling, brush hands lightly with butter before shaping popcorn mixture into balls.

Another neat treat for your little goblins is the following "recipe":
WITCH'S HANDS
clear plastic deli-type gloves
candy corn for the fingernails
popcorn, popped
twist ties
ribbons
expandable spooky finger rings
Pop the popcorn (buttered or unbuttered, however you like it). For each glove (hand) drop 1 piece of candy corn into each finger & thumb tip of the glove. Fill "ring finger" up to about where the ring is to rest, put ring into place, & finish filling entire glove with popcorn. As you are filling the glove make sure the candy corn is pointed the right direction in order to look like a fingernail. Tie shut with twist tie. Tie a length of ribbon over the twist tie to hide it. The kids love them, & they make a great party gift for school, home, anywhere! By changing the type of ring you use these popcorn hands can be for all types of parties, not just at Halloween.
