Our whole family is so exhausted I'm not sure what we should do. My daughter 25 months old is (was) potty training and then broke her arm. Her schedule is way out of wack so tired and cranky. My husband has hurt his ankle and can't sleep at night and during the day he is working over time at a stressful job. And for myself I'm 30 weeks pregnant with sciatica. Trying to keep the house clean everyone fed and happy. We are all so tired it not making for a very happy household. Any suggestions.

Now is the time to call on your parents (yours or his), your sisters, your brothers, your church pastor or priest, even your friends and tell them you honestly need some help. It isn't asking something out of line. In your situation if you don't get some help somehow, sometime either you are going to have breakdown of some sort or you will become so exhausted that you will be unable to concentrate on things. That is when accidents happen. Ask for help. You'd be surprised how fast word will spread through a church group and you'd be amazed how much it will help if just a few women simply take turns bringing you a cooked dinner a couple of nights a week or popping in to do your dishes. It can make a big difference and it isn't being whiny or lazy. You have more than enough going on right now and your family needs you to have your wits about you and if he's working a stressful job your husband needs you to be happy and upbeat (if possible, I know it's tough to do sometimes) when he comes home. Another thing you may want to consider - men like to be needed. If he sees you falling apart and you don't give him something he can do to help he will start to feel as if he isn't being the man you need him to be. Find something he can do to help even with his ankle hurting. Make sure you let him know you really appreciate it too. It will help him to actually become more helpful and it will show in his moods and attitude. Last of all, take time for yourself. Even if it is just 1/2 hour of each day. Insist on it. Do something you want to do. Read, yak on the phone, take a bubble bath, go for a walk. You need to get away for a few minutes every day to gather your sanity.

Yes. First, get someone to sit with your daughter. Then go to a chiropractor for the sciatica. Takes one or two adjustments. Do the absolutely necessary stuff and let the other things ride for awhile. The world will not end.

Do you have sick time? How about the whole family take one sick day. Don't worry about the house. Order food out, and DON"T get out of your pajamas. Lay in bed with books, magazines, TV, and most importantly, Naps!

We call them mental health days
