It is thought to have come about from the song, "Let's Do It, Let's Fall In Love" by Cole Porter in 1928. It said, "Birds do it, bees do it, even educated fleas do it. Let's do it. Let's fall in love". There is also a 1939 reference (over 10 years later) in the Freeport Journal Standard.

good question... i have often thought of it my self as when you think of it the birds and the bees dont actuallly get together so why do they call it that... i hope you get the answer....
