It is inevitable for man to see an object when they pray or worship in any other way. Don't be mislead though, ALL the major religions, not only the oriental ones use idols in worship.
Check out the rock in Mecca in Islam. The statues of Christ and Mary, alongside with the rosarium in the Catholic Church, the two dimentional pictures (icons) of the saints in the Orthodox Church, the use of the Crusifix as a charm and a worship item in most of the Protestant Churches, use of the Holy Scriptures as an item of worship in both Christianity and Judaism. The use of some famous names (sports, music, or movie stars) to attract believers.

Buddhism has nothing to do with gods at all. As to Hinduism--I think you need to look at it a little deeper. Although there are a number of dieties--the center of it is something that could be translated as "being" or "that which is"-- a transcendantal Beingness--both within us and Universal.

Buddhism never promote worshiping statues or worshiping unknown forces, you misunderstood the religion completely.
Buddha himself told that worshiping statues and unseen forces(GODS) is a foolish thing but Buddhist worship statues of Buddha to show their respect for the things he said.
Buddha himself told that Buddhism is for intelegent people
Buddhist believe in Karma & Reincarnation (Cause & Effect)
Our next life is determined from the things we do in this life (Good, Bad)
We try to find the ultimate freedom by purifying our mind from any bad thoughts....and by gaining ultimate wisdom...and achieve Nirvana
We achieve this by Meditation
Our religion never shed blood in the name of religion
We believe every living things has the same right to live and our religion is opposed to killing of any living being (Animals, insects)
We don’t believe that god can bring us happiness or ultimate wisdom...........it’s our mind which can achieve anything....so we don’t worship GOD
We believe there is heavens and many other worlds in the universe
they don’t have any power on us they are worlds like us but only higher than us
When we die we go there according to our Karma. Nirvana is a state of mind, Its not heaven, we believe its better than heaven. Its ultimate bliss of mind
The next life is decided by the energy (Karma)....created by our mind. Nobody judges It, if we have good karma...good worlds….. bad karma...we go to bad worlds...its like water flowing down....its the way of the universe

Because they believe in them, and they believe these gods can help them. If I want, I can believe my teddy bear gives advice, right? I'd just pretend that it's saying what a teddy bear would say if it could talk.
A rough analogy, I admit. These "man-made" gods may be quite different. But, I believe, similar.

Because everyone has the right to believe what they want to believe, as long as they are not hurting anyone else. So why would you care? Did someone who believed one of those hurt you? If not, leave 'em alone.

Because that is what they are taught to believe in, from their families.
