You did not provide an age range here, but first of all -- do not take it personally.
Parents can be difficult to please -- especially your friends' parents, let alone a girlfriend's parents. MAYBE they would prefer that their daughter not have a "boyfriend", but would prefer that she have lots of friends of both sexes. MAYBE there are other factors here that you are not aware of like her health, her academic program (or lack of), or her emotional maturity.
And sometimes religion is a factor, a big factor. So please do not take it personally. Just cool it on the girlfriend thing -- you like one another, but you cannot force her parents to join you in all this. I strongly suspect that age may be one of the biggest factors here.
Of course, if you or your family are from a different socio-economic level -- that could also be a very big factor. I know it is difficult, but many families expect their daughters to marry up, not down. And any date will seriously be viewed from that base.
To try to help you better understand, try this. Imagine that you have a daughter. She has a boyfriend that you may or may not know and she wants to spend time with him. You have met him, but he is not your "idea of the ideal" potential marriage partner -- your reception towards this guy is going to be cool. And it is nothing against him, but you tell your daughter to break up with him and limit all social contact with him to necessary school functions (class). No hate, no feelings toward the guy -- unless he continues to pursue her. And then it is total trouble.
Without the parents' buy-in, it would be difficult to pursue a boyfriend/girlfriend relationship without it causing problems for you and her. Respect her parents' wishes and back off.

My friend is going throught the same problem. Just think of it as a learning experiance. Character buliding if your a good guy they will notice it once you give them your respect. And don't complian to your gf about it because she will just go tell her parents and they will dislike you more.

Ask to be with her and them too. You gotta start somewhere(with this girl at least) Do what you gotta do. Be like a son to them and they will feel you are worthy of thier daughter.
