Good, in my opinion, for a couple of reasons. One, it's a group activity. Two, they develop a set of skills that truly are remarkable, like a gymnast, which makes anyone feel kind of cool, and rightfully so. Three, it is a sport they can continue for years starting so young and possibly compete, possibly at a major level by the time they are mid teens. And fourth, when someone god forbid tries to attack them when they are sixteen, they will be armed, legally. What's not to like!

Probably a very good idea to build confidence and self-esteem. Also it's a good fitness program. A horrible Idea if you have self defense in mind however.

I am going to put my 6yr. old in classes not only for the self esteem but for the confidence to know not to let others take advantage of you in any way. Kids are mean and can hurt a child's self esteem I think if my daughter has that confidence in herself she will not let any one harm her in any way (mind or body)
my child has been assaulted twice and is only 6 I am hoping it will make her a strong young girl and women........She will also be able to protect herself sad to say as she is only 6 but true.....She is a smart girl just scared with good reason she understands this isn't to be used to fight but to protect herself and become a better young girl inside

Hi,
I am Mughal A Recognized Black Belt 1Dan from World Taekwondo Federation .
Dear friend Starting taekwondo from the age of 6 years is a desired age for a player to become natuaralized in it and therefore to be the one of the greatest players of the world if consistancy is kept through the way, a good player of taekwondo never keeps good techniques in mind but he inserts them into his nature otherwise in the ring it doesnt give you the time to think so it is best for her to be Naturalaized in the game.
Mughal.

It would probably be a good thing, not only for the reasons you have already stated, but for also building self control, stamina (and general good health), as well as camaraderie (since most people learn the martial arts in classes with others). Tae Kwon Do may not be the best martial art for pure self defense purposes, but its a great sport, especially for youngsters.

my daughter is 5 and she goes to tae kwon do
she really likes it she spars with the other kids
with all her gear on she does really well
and I think it makes her feel good about herself
she goes 5 days a week sometimes 2 or 3 hours each time
but I also have her in dance 1 time a week for 1 hour
trying to keep her a little "girlie"
you know what I mean?

Great! My son just turned 11, and he is one kata away from a black belt. He, quite honestly, stinks at baseball, basketball, etc., but boy what a boost to his self esteem to come this far and have done it all himself!

That would be a good, but make sure that she wants to do it. Tell her there are other options besides that because she might like something els, like ice skating of dance.
