this is a great question! You are eligible for 6 weeks of FMLA but remember it's unpaid. if you can afford it and want to do that- i recommend only taking a little time at first. she may need you to stay home when the baby is a little older too especially if she'll be staying home and won't get out of the house much. she may need a break later. If you can't take unpaid- then take about 2 days AFTER they get home from the hospital. she has LOTS of help in the hospital- but you're it at home. CONGRATS by the way!

He is covered under the FMLA. As long as you can afford the 6 week leave with no guaratee that he will have HIS position, but A position at the company. Mine only took the day of birth and the day I came home, and I had a C-section without assistance from family, as we lived 700 miles away from them.

This definitely depends on (1) If he is the bread winner in the family, and (2) How much savings is put away for living expenses, and/or how much pto he has availble.
But I would love to have my man home with me for as long as possible to help any overwhelming feelings and stress that might occur.

It depends. If he already has other children he might want to take off a liitle longer so he could help his wife and help the other child or children adjust. One week or 10 days should be fine.

As long as he and his wife think he needs to for bonding and her support. There is the Family Medical Leave Act, but you don't get paid. You could always use vacation time. Talk to HR and tell them you'd like to schedule to take vacation beginning the day the baby is born. Maybe they can do that for you.
Congratulations.

Paternity leave is six weeks, just like maternity. Some insurance companies cover it and others don't. I would assume it depends on how the mother is doing, if there are other children, their ages, income, and such.

at least for a week. i mean he should definitely be there when his wofe is in labor then a few days more to help the wife around cuz the wife is gonna be a little weak. then maybe after the one week off, the next week he should only take half day for his work.

it all depends, is there going to be someone to help your wife while she recovering. did she have a c section? also what can you afford to take off. when i had my kid c section, i didnt have anyone stay with me. i took care of myself and my kid all by myself, so if you cant get off anytime, noone should think any different of you, although you should be there for the birth. if you have vacation time or sick time to take, that would be fine.

At least until the baby has been home for a couple of days. These are the days that go by the quickest and you dont want to miss them.
