Sodom and Gomorrah were two cities, infamous for the wickedness of their inhabitants, which were supposed to be located somewhere along the southern shore of the Dead Sea. Unfortunately, no archeological evidence of their actual existence has ever been recovered. According to Genesis 19:15-22, Abraham's nephew Lot traveled there to find righteous men, but failed and thereafter the cities were obliterted by the wrath of God.

Sodom and Gomorrah aren't who's they are wheres. They are the two cities that Lot and his wife fled from.
The two cities were horrific. Drinking, raping, gambling, idolotry. In His anger God decided He was going to destroy the cities. He sent an angel to find good people in hopes that He wouldn't have to destroy S & G.
The angel struggled and struggled, God constantly giving him a few more days until one day, the angel found Lot. The angel was then told to have Lot, his children and wife to flee. But they could NOT look backwards to the city.
The only rule was they could not look back. They had to give up their lives there and move on. They were almost out of the hills and Lot's wife looked back to see fireballs destroying the cities. She was turned instantly into a pillar of salt.
It's said that Soddom and Gohmorroa is where the Dead Sea is.

They're cities, actually. Sodom and Gomorrah were cities in the Middle East that were infamous for the debauchery and sin that took place there. After Abraham left his family with Lot, his uncle, they had decided to divide the land between them. Abraham told Lot that he would let him have the first pick. Lot chose Sodom and Gomorrah. Then, the sin in Sodom and Gomorrah heightened so much that God decided to destroy the city in fire and brimstone. First, though, he sent two angels in human form to tell Lot to leave. The angels encountered a lot of homosexuals, who wanted to have sex with them. Lot attempted to assuage their sick desires by offering his virgin daughters to them, but they refused. So, the angels blinded all of them and went inside to warn Lot to leave the city. They also warned Lot not to look back at the city when leaving.
Lot took all he could and, with his family, left the city while it was being pummeled to the ground with fire and brimstone. His wife looked back despite the warning, and she turned into a pillar of salt.
In short, Sodom and Gomorrah were cities in which people reveled in sin, and, because of that, God had to destroy them. In the English language, a Gomorrah would refer to a city, state, or country devoid of values in which sin and the vices of human nature are prevalent.
The story starts in the Bible from Genesis 13.

Fictional cities, nobody has ever located any evidence of either, supposedly destroyed by the God because the citizens failed to show proper hospitality and were sinners of every kind...homophobes like to twist the story to suit their own prejudices but there is no mention of homosexuality in the story, the attempted rape of angels by the towns men cannot be construed as homosexuality as the raping angels wouldn't even be same-species rape let alone same-sex rape and certainly not consensual same-sex sexual activity. Anyway the town was already scheduled for destruction before this event so the attempted rape of angels hardly matters at all...it's all just a bit of fantasy really and it doesn't make any sense except to loony toons.

They were two cities that God destroyed because of their great sinfulness.
Genesis 18:20, NIV
Then the LORD said, "The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and their sin so grievous that I will go down and see if what they have done is as bad as the outcry that has reached me. If not, I will know."

They were two cities in which Lot and his wife lived. God said to Abraham he was going to destroy them because of their wickedness. (note: Fundies believe it was because the men were supposedly gay, most intelligent theological scholars know better).
Anyhow, Abraham pleaded with God to spare the city because of Lot, God sent two angels into the city, at which point there was a confrontation with the people, and Lot and his family escaped. Lots' wife turned around as they left and was turned into a pillar of salt.
There have been several versions of how and why the cities were destroyed, but all anyone knows factually is that they once existed and are now beneath the dead sea.
Also, it is where "Christians" erroneously get the term Sodomy to mean Gay, when in Aramaic it simply means wicked one or person.

Two ancient cities that were destroyed by fire. There was a show about them on the Discovery Channel. Some archaeologists found them, as well as the other three cities and the 5 rivers they were sited at. Sorry, not myth.

Sodom & Gomorrah are related to a story in the Bible and the Qur'an.
In the Qur'an, it is the story of Lot (Lut in Arabic). The city was destroyed because men prefered to have "sexual relationships" with other men and not with women. So God sent two angels who appeared in the form of two handsome men, to Lot to warn him that he has to leave the city with his family immediately by night, because it was about to be destroyed in the early hours of the next morning.
When the men of the city saw these beautiful men, they attempted to seduce them, and lot began arguing with them about their indecent homosexual desires.
(11:81)
(The Messengers) said: "O Lut! We are Messengers from thy Lord! By no means shall they reach thee! now travel with thy family while yet a part of the night remains, and let not any of you look back: but thy wife (will remain behind): To her will happen what happens to the people. Morning is their time appointed: Is not the morning nigh?"
"Lutey" in Arabic stands for Homosexual. It comes from the root word "Lut".

Twin Cities in the bible who were very morally corrupt . If fact that city was so corrupt that the men in the city wanted to break in to a house to rape Lot ( Abrahams' nephew) and their male guests,( but they would take his daughters too...) God was mad with the pervertion in the city and so he burn it to the ground. Lot escaped because of Abraham's prayers for him..... That's it in a nutshell!
