My daughter is walking now and i've moved back into my parents place until my new place is ready to be moved into but while im here my father owns a female rot thats about 4 or 5 years old and she walks around my daughter but one day when i was eating candy with my daughter she climbed off the couch and walked up to the dog and put her hand on the dogs head like i let her do when im watching and the dog got up and barked at her. it made her run off and cry and i clamed her down. but after that day i just didn't like the dog around her.My dad loves his grandchild and said if it came down to it he would sale his dog to protect my daughter from harm. stop something before it happens but i don't want him to have to sale his dog. maybe the dog smelled the candy and didn't like it? or maybe something else?don't know what do u think?

the dog is not used to being around young children . . . you have to start dogs off young (as puppies) around children, so that way they will be used to it . . . I wouldn't tell dad to get rid of his dog . . just keep her in a restricted area when the baby is around . . .

I think that your dad is doing the right thing, he should sell the dog!! If you think about it, majority of the time a child is attack its by a Pit bull or a Rottweiler. Do some research. Try a smaller dog! I'm sure your daughter would like that a lot better and it would put your mind at ease knowing a smaller dog cant drag your child around the house!!!

she may have just startled the dog. If the dog hasn't shown any other signs before that or after that of not liking her then I wouldn't worry. However, if he is still barking at her then I would take some action. Hope everything works out well for you.

These types of dogs aren't really good around children and can turn on them very quickly.Maybe the dog felt threatened..no matter what the reason the dog had your daughter is number one.SELL THE DOG!!!!!!!!!

My understanding is rots do not do well around small children. I would not leave them unattended at any time under any circumstance. It would probably also be best if the dog is kept either outside or in another room away from the baby. good luck.

it could be that most bigger dogs get irritated around small children but will tolerate it when their "master" is around. most young kids dont know any better and smack on the dog or pull its hair. i dont think it would be the smell of the candy tho. the dog could have simply not wanted to be touched or something at the time to so it was trying to scare her off

Roc's are pretty good with kids maybe it bark in a playful manner they are big dogs so their bark isn't going to be high pitch it's deep and solid i have a roc it a girl and her name is essence very good dog playful with kids. but do what's best for the baby most importantly if i was you i would just keep the baby away from the dog that way you and dad would be happy. good luck...

Try your best to keep the dog away. Only let her play with the dog when you are right there to watch her.

it was your child. dogs that are not used to children sometimes do not like children. your dad should not have to sell his dog, especially since you are not going to be there long. just keep them away from each other and if they are around each other stay right by your daughter.

I may not be an expert but rots aren't as bad as people claim them to be.Just have one on one side of a fence and another on the other.
