Islam is not the principal religion in Iraq, so why does George W. Bush refer to Baghdad as the Caliphate?

Neddie... I'm REALLY beginning to worry about you!

Iraq is estimated to be over 95% Muslim. 60% are Sh'ia Muslims and 35-40% are Sunni Muslims. As to "killing each other" we all hear every day about sectarian violence, bombings, abductions killings and mass executions - Iraqi against Iraqi. Here's a quote from Wikipedia on the subject:

"Contrary to prior belief, Christians and Muslims get along better than Shi'a and Sunni Muslims. Conflict between these two Islamic sects has turned into riots, tit-for-tat bombings, and what has been considered a small-scale civil war in Baghdad."

As to a "Caliphate", Bush was quoting Osama Bin Laden as saying that "Iraq is the center of the Caliphate". In this case OBL sees a unified world Islamic "state" (or Caliphate). GWB cites this to show OBL's distorted obsession with an Islamic dominated world and his belief that Iraq (and probably with himself, as Caliph) is at the center of that world.

Now once again Neddie...what is it you're accusing George Bush of now?

Al-Sadr is calling the shots in Baghdad just like the Ayatollah called the shots in Tehran.

Saddam was a secularist and fought 8 year war with Iran which ended in a stalemate.

Both Iran and Iraq want the US to go home. 52 hostages and 241 dead US Marines kept the US away for a while - but something catastrophic has to occur to make the US go home for good.

I very pleased that Wanda can remeber how the pagan romans fed christians to the lions. If you remeber your English history you would remember that the English and Irish Quarrels were a lot more than religous ones. Islamofacist use there religion as an excuse to wipe out the sects of islam that they don't like. they hide behind there mask of religion.

Pretty much.

They would be killing even more innocent bystanders were it not for US troops there.

But Islam IS the principal religion there, it is just that there are 3 ethnic groups espousing 3 versions of Islam and that is where the fighting starts

No actually, that is more among Catholics in Ireland, and even Christians who fed human beings to lions in the colisseum.

I don't think Islam would allow animals to eat such impurity
