Beast does not = nations or countries in the Bible. Beasts sometimes are used to symbolically respresent a country but also a person. Jesus is the LAMB of God (and Lion of Judah), Alexander the Great is a Great HE-Goat (Daniel), Satan is a Serpent etc... It would seem that in this instance (if you want to remove the metaphor) it is a mark of the Antichirst. 6 is sometimes considered the number of man (man was created on the 6th day) as 7 is the number of God (the Sabbath was on the 7th day and God rested and set aside the 7th day as Holy). My guess is that 666 refers to something that will be an act of worship of the Antichirst or of humanity and that receiving it will have nothing to do with a implant chip or SSN or any such thing. A lot of ridiculous hype has gone into some wild theories that people have come up with concerning this but we must remember that this is not all specified exactly as to what this will be so caution not hasty jumping to conclusions would seem to be a wiser approach. It is tempting for some to sensationalize the text to sell books or movies but that does not mean that their wild theories have anything to do with Scripture.

Speculation that it could possibly be credit card numbers has been strong, but more likely the implanted numbers (I mean, how necessary could this be for the world?!
