No matter who you are or how old, it always comes down to eating right and being active. The goal is not so much to lose weight now, but be healthy forever.

If you want to lose weight, start eating better. It doesn't have to be drastic. Start having more vegetables with lunch and dinner and smaller portions of the main entre. They are lower calorie and will help fill you up. Try and eat healthy snacks when hungry between meals, like fruit or cheese, instead of chips or sweets. Stop drinking any sugar filled drinks, like Coke. Drink water or diet sodas instead. Water is cheaper too! And lastly, avoid fast food places like McDonalds or Taco Bell. Once every now and then is OK, but it's too easy to eat their food too often. If your parents are buying it, ask for the grilled chicken sandwich or one of the big salads, instead of the big hamburger and fries.

I'm sure you've been taught the Food Pyramid in school. Review it and keep it in mind when you are eating or preparing meals. I've given you a link to the government's Food Pyramid web site. I've also included the link to the older Food Pyramid, because I find the new one incredibly hard to understand. I miss the old days of the 4 food groups.

As for being active, try watching less TV or less sitting in front of the computer, and do fun activities, like bike riding, tennis, basketball, whatever appeals to you. Exercise doesn't have to be a chore. When I was your age me and my buddy used to love riding our bikes to the tennis court and playing. We always played basketball during breaks and lunch. It wasn't until after high school that I stopped doing those things and got fat.

You do these things and the weight will naturally come off and your health will improve.

Good luck!

I believe Dr Phil has put out a good book for young people on losing weight. He believes diet doesn't work and I absolutely agree. We are all made differently and some people will never be thin just like others will never be fat. I am as skinny as anything and always have been and come from a skinny family and I hate it and wish I could put on some weight. But I also grew up real healthy and all our snacks were things like fruit. I also can't eat dairy which makes it hard to gain weight. But for you, I would suggest change in lifestyle not diet. Exercise everyday. Doesn't have to be major stuff not to start with anyway. If you went for a brisk walk everyday, starting with 10 minutes and building up to at least 30 minutes it would do you the world of good. Change your meals to healthy ones and keep amount of fats and carbs and sugars down low but do not eliminate or you will just crave them. Get busy to decrease the chance of comfort eating.

Make sure you drink a large glass of water before each meal and before each time you feel like eating. It's good for you and it makes you feel more full...

Hey - good luck and how good it is that you are acknowledging a problem and dealing with it.

You can always try out for every sports team in your school, that'll help you lose some weight. As for a diet plan, just avoid fast-food. I lost 12 pounds in three weeks, and that's what I did along with working out.

Just realized something. If you're worried about what people might think of you, just tell them that you just want to exercise and lose weight. Some may still ridicule you (those tend to be the insecure types), but the actual human beings won't think any less of you and they'll probably even approve of what you're doing to their friends. Good luck.
