Chamomile tea, warm bath with lavender, gentle massage. Do not allow him to sleep in the day time. Give him no stimulation when you are ready for him to sleep, his room should be dark and quiet or with soothing music, turn off the ringer on the phone and anything else distracting. Bore him. Good luck.

What is your son eating throughout the day? Try this for 2 days: When he wakes up in the morning do no give him any sugar products. Check the labels and make sure has does not get any. If he goes to daycare make sure he does not eat any there either. When it is close to bath time use lavender scented bath oil in his bath. Give him warm milk or Luke warm water before bed. You can gradual add very small amounts of sugar back after a few weeks. But, add in moderation. This worked with my little girl when she was 2 years old.

My son has ADHD and ODD, he has never slept ona regular schedule. I have tried everything and so have the doctors, I guess I've just gotten to the point when hes tried he'll sleep. But hes 10 now and knows to stay in bed, he just doesn't sleep. When he was a toddler, I would wake up to my house being a mess. I feel for you believe me, I just put my son on a schedule he is in bed at 8:30 very night and sometimes he can sleep and others he just lays there, thinking.

dont worry to much about the melatonin its not a manmade chemical its a naturally occuring hormone the brain produces in all of us to say "its time to sleep".i had this problem and eventually he was diagnosed with aspergers syndrome.once i knew that i started on changing his routine it took an awfully long time but was worth it in the end.2 nights of not sleeping isnt long enough to start panicking. be careful not to overreact.ask his school/nursery/playgroup if he appears to be different to the other chidren if they say yes take it further the sooner you know whats wrong the better.my son is 11 now and i dont tell him he has something wrong but tell him he is unique his character is very imposing but everybody loves him .i may not of been any help but wish you both a happy life

like everything else you body will become amune to it after prolonged usage .there are some herbal sleeping remidies but not that affective im affraid .you may want to try some relaxation for you child as an alternitive as well as a warm drink and bath before bed and some quiet time before you send the child off to his special little dream land with in his bedroom . make bed time fun for him and tell him to dream of only good things , in the morning get him to tell you all about his special dreams but he is only allowed to tell you if he has slept well . you may find he wakes as he is insecure of waking to find you not there so leave you room door as well as his open to reasure him your not far away and a small night light on so he can find his way to you if he needs to .my 9 year old still wakes to come find me once he knows im around he goes back to bed no problem and soon hes fast asleep again medication is not always an answer for a child who cant or wont sleep patients and listening to him wiht a lot of understanding helps to find the root cause of why this is happening .a trauma or any thing bad thats happned to him ie a bad fall could all contrabute to his sleepless nights its up top you as mum or dad to find out the root cause .

We had the same problem. Our boy was on Antihistamines as he was too young for other drugs to make him sleep but they wore out. We were forced to let him sleep in our bed to get some sleep. Then we got a partial nights sleep. From there we let him choose his own bed. Make a big deal of it and from that night we have never had him coming to bed with us and he gets 12 hours sleep most nights now. Hope this helps.

the reason hes not sleeping anymore is cause his body is getting immune to the meltonin, so you can space the doses out, wait a couple of nights then give the regular dose, skip a night then try again the next. and talk with his doc to see what he thinks.see when i get a tooth ache,i use tylenol but after a week the meds whare off and dont work anymore cause i get immune to it.

i stopped giving my son anything fizzy or with sugar in it after about 6pm. i make sure he gets out to run around and burn off some energy when he gets back from school and make him do something like reading with concentrates and tires the mind.
as a treat i'll get a load of quilts in the front room and make up a big double bed and tell him it's our "camp" and we're all going to "sleep in the camp tonight."
its a simple thing but he wants to go to bed and generally gets a good night.
I refuse to give him medication for it. it was hard at first but worth it now
good luck

Okay, first the mel. only helps them get to sleep it does not keep them asleep.
2nd, any vestibular activity stays in the system for 4 hours and keeps the body stimulated. Make sure hisevenings are as calm as possible
3rd, get him out and into as much sun as possible...this is natural mel.
4th, tough love... as long as there is nothing medically going on and he is not in pain every time he gets out of bed, put him back in. His behavior needs to be modified.
Lastly, you are a good mom ... believe that.
