Today a black individual who I see sometimes said to me "what up my n****?"
I'm white and come from the south, but I am NOT racist. I did't know what to say, so I just said "Hi sir, how are you doing, how's the wife and kids?"
The guy just looked at me kinda crazy and left. How should I respond to a coon next time he asks me this question?

BTW, I dont even know if this guy is married or has kids. I just said the first thing that came to my head!
I think this is why he looked at me crazy.

You should of just nodded and not responded. But getting so worked up over him saying that and sinking into the gutter to call him a coon is UN-called for. Why do you have to wear your heart on your sleeve. You could of just made this an interesting part of your day and maybe just smiled to yourself. It takes all kinds in this world to make the world go round. Not just the the rednecks from the south. Ooooooo I mean not just the White's from the south. Chill out

There is nothing wrong with the way you responded to this individual. In fact you were very respectful and this should have been well recieved on his part. However, I recommend that you refrain from using the term 'coon'. It may be taken the wrong way.

When you said "Hi sir, and how are you doing..." he looked at you the same way you looked at him when he said" Whatup..."
This is what makes the world go round. Look at the two very different ways to say the very same thing..
The only thing about you is that you are too ignorant to see that. Someone should report you for your disgusting display of unintelligence. I'm not snitchy, but some one else is bound to be you dumb #^@% ing @$$hole.

Excuse me.....you're not racist but you use the term "coon"? To me, that's as vulgar and disrespectful as the word he used. What's wrong with pleasantly saying hello and leaving out any racist remarks? Grow up people!!

Sounds like this makes you feel uncomfortable...tell him so.
This person may be unaware that using the phrase "what up
my n*****" offends many people white, black or brown.
