I lost over 150 pounds two years ago and have maintained my weight since then. I never had cravings for sweets during my weight loss nor before it. I wanted meat, pasta, potatoes, regular dinner food. Now, I find myself wanting cookies often. Is there a medical reason? psychological? Thanks for your help

Congratulations on your weight loss!! That's fantastic.

The oatmeal raisin cookies are ok to eat. They're a grain and a fruit. Good for you. Leave the choc chip alone. Try and satisfy your sweet hunger cravings with natural sugars in fruit.'

Probably. You've probably been depriving yourself and mentally we associate good times with food. Carbs are especially addicting... they are hard to resist, especially after a long day.

I'd explore why you want sweets... are you thirsty? bored? anxious? Are you truly hungry?

The key to successful maintainece for weight loss is moderation. I wouldn't worry too much about having a sweet now and then. If you don't give in once in a while, you'll wind up binging and generally a small portion of sweets isn't going to lead to overnight weight gain. Eat the whole box of cookies and you are in trouble, but there's no problem in a small snack.

Also, there are some studies coming out that consuming diet drinks (those with artificial sugars) triggers the body's need for the "real deal". Consider this next time you imbibe a diet coke.

Good luck and congrats on your weight loss.

Wow! 150 lbs! That is so wonderful!
Now that you have lost all that weight, you want things that you shouldn't have.
Everybody does it. Most of us just don't have your willpower.
Just your sweet tooth kicking in. Don't worry. It's not serious.
It's not a medical problem.

I would say you're wanting the grains in the oatmeal cookies and the chocolate - hey! are you pregnant?
