My god, are people still being drawn in by what is just a low-carb diet?

It may, but the garbage that consume in doing so will probably kill you after a while.

Low-carb, low-fat, low-cal diets are way past their sell by date. In this day and age you should be looking at metabolic profiling, low-glycaemic dieting, backed up with pro-biotiucs if necessary.

Good luck.

I believe the low-carb diet is applicable and I've seen it work for some individuals. There's no doubt that it does work for many as well. However, here are my caveats:

1) Your name is jogger. I assume you run. If you go atkins, you'll definitely suck at jogging. Atkins leaves you with virtually no energy. I've read horror stories from runners who go low-carb and suddenly find their times take a turn for the worse (as well as their enjoyment of the sport).

2) In my opinion, low carb diets are not useful for a lifetime of weight control. They seem great in reducing the pounds (and it comes off quickly), but I've never seen a person go long term on this diet. Most quit after they've lost a few pounds or got to theid desired weight, but immediately gained it all back when they re-introduced carbs.

3) There are too many side effects: constipation, bad breath, lack of energy, gout, and a lack of food choices (try eating cheese and bacon the rest of your life). To me, it's just not a diet for a lifetime.

It's up to you if you want to go this route, but I certainly don't recommend it for long term weight control.

Good luck.

Atikins (or in general, a high-protein,low carbo diet) does work, and scientific studies continue to confirm it's effectiveness. It is probably the only diet (without using drugs) that can break the 5% success rate (only 5% of dieters are able to keep a weight loss of 10% of their body weight off for 5 years)

yeah i remember hearing alot of BAD stuff about that "atkins" diet. the best way to shape up and loose weight is eat healthy and exercise regulary and when your eating WATCH YOU AMOUNTS...portion size is that biggest mistake people make when on a diet.

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS TARGETED WEIGHT LOSS.

arm exercise will NOT make you lose arm fat.
crunches and sit ups will NOT make you lose belly fat.
leg exercise will NOT make you lose leg fat.

you need to lose weight overall, using a diet combined with regular exercise. the atkins diet is not healthy, as it induces ketosis, and makes your body essentially eat itself. just cut back your calories and junk food.
