No, Not that I've ever heard (I'm an addictions therapist in a methadone/Suboxone treatment facility). It is used to treat addiction and chronic pain. They're also looking into treating depression with buprenorphine (the main drug in Suboxone), but that is not an approved treatment by the FDA.

And methadone is approved only for the treatment of opiate dependency. This includes not only heroin, but also prescription drugs such as OxyContin, Lortab, etc. It is not approved for the treatment of other addictions (like crack as one posted indicated), although some research has been done in using methadone in treating alcoholism.

My Friend I am a Pharmacy Student, a Former US Marine, and Most importantly, I use to take every pill know to man, so let me help you right now in a nice way by saying "HELL NO", that said, I suspect " I may be wrong though" that someone in your house or someone you know told you it was, so you or your buddies wouldn't take them. Am I right? Just curious, if not then my bad, but If I am, let me say that, I've been down that road my friend and it's NOT worth it, Once you start taking pills and **** from people close to you, then you become not only an addict now, but damn theif, and will take you years and maybe never, to get that trust back form whoever it may be, like I said if i was wrong, my bad, But NO, METHADONE is not for your heart, It is a Prescription Opiate based Narcotic medication for Pain, Severe Pain, and it's used for treating opiate addication also. No. Methadone is a cheap pain killer (i.e narcotic). It prescribed to relieve all types of pain and also used to treat heroin addicts.

Just as all narcotics, methadone is highly addictive and can be deadly.
