Head east on the trans canada from Winnepeg. About an hour east of Thunder Bay is Nipigon, Ontario, take #11 and go through Cochrane, Hearst, to North Bay. In North bay take the trans Canada to Ottawa, missing the Toronto area altogether. As you enter Montreal from Ottawa, watch for the Champlain Bridge exit and head south towards Sherbrooke, Que. After crossing the bridge (10 km or so) you will head north on highway 30 towards Sorel which will take you back to the trans canada on the eastern side of Montreal, this way you will avoid most of the Montreal traffic. Head east on the trans canada through the rest of Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia to North Sydney. With 2 drivers going non-stop, you can do the drive in about 40-50 hours. It is a long haul and please watch for moose on highway 11 through northern Ontario. Tim's in Cochrane and Hearst.

Call your local CAA office. They provide "triptiks" which have your route marked on a map, also points of interest, recommended accomodation within your budget and other neat stuff. Well worth the membership fee, and you get service to boot. Easiest route is just follow the Trans Canada all the way.
