Yes, I have sold two cars to them. Both times they offered me more than the other dealerships I went to. You don't have to worry about haggling for different values. Yes, you would probably get more if you sold it yourself, but if you don't have the time or desire to do this, I would use Carmax.

I tried carmax earlier this year when I was selling my car! They are ok to deal with, but I found that selling my car outright gave me more money! They offered me $1,500 for my car, but when I sold it I got $6,000 and it was in the same condition that carmax saw it in! Honestly it blue booked for about $3,000, but I had put a ton of crap into it so the person who bought it tought it was worth it! I would sell it outright and if you do not get an offers then take it somewere that will make you a deal!

Carmax is good for buying a car from.Selling your car on your own will get you more money for it. but if you don't want to go through the hassle then car max will buy it from you for way less than you could sell it for and take care of all the paper work.

carmax is a little better than trading it in at the dealership, but not much. They pretty much base their offers on kbb.com trade in values and work from there.
