I had a grade 2-3 sprain earlier this year, the ankle really achess still after activity and in the middle of the night. My doc hasn't ordered any tests and doesn't seem to take me seriously since my physio is over with. I feel like it's a joint pain but the doc says I'm too young for arthritis and stuff. What should I do to lessen the pain?

Go see a different Doctor. If you still have pain, there is a problem.

I have serious ankle problems too, and what I think you need to seriously consider is changing doctors. If your doc isn't taking your pain seriously, it's time to find a doc that does. In the mean time, ice ice ice ice ice that ankle. Try alternating ice and heat therapy, together with some tylenol if you can take tylenol. Also, keep it wrapped during activity, or wear a brace if you were given one for your sprain. The extra support will help. Also, some of the topical analgisics on the market really do help, such as Theragesic, and the new one, ActiveOn, in the OTC area of your pharmacy. And no one is "too young" for arthritis. Good luck with your problem.

Never let a doctor tell you that you are not hurting or are not sick. I have been sick for almost a year now and I had to change doctors, as my primary doctor did not believe I was in pain. My new doctor has taken so many tests and sent me to so many specialist, while no one still has a clue what is causing the pain on my lungs, I am still undergoing more tests. You need doctors that work with you, not with your insurance who is only interested in saving money at your expense.

Go back to the Dr and tell him your concerns again. Or go and get a second opinion. If there is pain, there is a reason for it. Don't let anyone tell you there isn't.

Use an ice pack or a heat pack whichever feels better to you. Keep the ankle raised on an ottoman or pillow or whatever while you're resting.'

Go see a different doctor and if it still hurts go to the emergency room and they'll take a cat scan of the ankle to see what's really happening. take otc meds and ice the ankle. sometimes, on the outside it looks normal, but in the inside it could be a different story.
