I'm aware of what doctors say about smoking pot, but can it have a negative effect on someones throat when that person has had a history of tonsilitis and has had their tonsils out 2 years ago. On the rare occasions when I do smoke, my throat will burn when I inhale and get sore the next day. I don't know of anyone that has ever smoked pot and had this same problem...

Try drinking water.. Usually 10 min after you smoke you get a sore feeling in your throat. Just drink water and it will go away .. Happy smoking.. from me to you . Don't listen to the people talking about quiting..more than likely ,, they've never smoked a day in their life and want to preach what they've heard rather than experience it on their own . Hate people like that . So you have a little irratation..but does it ruin your smoke experience for the hours to come>? Doubt it.. just drink water after the smoke and keep a bottle of water around you . Your throat hurts?? Drink some water . Again ,, most of these people never smoked before so don't worry about the people saying.."it's no good for you " or " you don't need it" .. It's like , thanks Mr. Rogers ..but since you don't smoke yourself ..exactly what the hell are you talking about here? Lmao , at the people telling you ..don't do it ..it's bad. He's not talking about crack or coke...he's just smoking weed .

IMHO, smoking pot is far less destructive than either alcohol or cigarettes - both legal. My guess is that you're smoking crappy weed (schwag) - immature, poorly dried, and/or badly or not cured. Any of these issues can cause pot to be harsh and irritating, causing the symptoms you describe. Coughing as a result of inhaling harsh smoke can also irritate your throat. Try using a bong to filter and cool the smoke...or better yet, learn to grow your own for the best quality. Depending on where you live, it may even be legal, as it should be, everywhere.

Put a filter on the end of your smoke. Sometimes a pipe has given me a sore throat, so I switched to rolling. I never smoked anything low grade, either. And yes, pot is used for medicinal purposes. My friend had cancer and he was prescribed pot in pilI form. I don't do any smoking anymore - I haven't in about 3 years (no, I don't want a medal.) My wife cannot be around that stuff, so I gave it up for her.

Unless you smoke cigarettes without this problem, it may very well just be that the smoke is irritating your (likely sensitive due to your history) throat and have less to do with what it is that you are smoking, and more to do with the particles in the smoke.

Make sure you are smoking out of a fairly clean pipe or roll one, that will cut down on the extra crap you take in that can irritate your thoat.

Also, smoking tends to make you thirsty, so make sure you are properly hydrated before and while you partake.

Yes it can irritate your throat. It also has more tar than a cigarette so you are damaging your lungs too. Make some brownies instead.
