Man, if you were in the states I could answer you 10 ways to Sunday. Might I suggest you try a nice blend. There's a wine here (im in Connecticut) called Menage a Trois (I believe the wine is a California). Not because its sexy but because it is blended with 3 different grapes, Zinfandel, Merlot and Cabernet. I've also found that wine made with the Cabernet Franc grape is quite yummy. HInt, open your wine at least a 1/2 hour before you want to drink it. Hope this helps!! Let me know how you make out!!

Go for a well-aged Chateauneuf du Pape from France. Spare no expense! If you'd rather have an Italian, get a good bottle of Amarone. I'm not sure which labels are available to you, but those two varieties are some of the best around.

Wine is very subjective. What I like, you may hate (and vice versa) That said, I enjoy full bodied, slightly acidic reds. Concha y Toro and Cassilla de Diablo are two of my favorites. Both are from Chile and neither is very expensive. (And it's entirely possible that I have butchered the spelling.) Good luck!

Given that you are in Europe, I recommend a Bordeaux.

My absolute favorite is Chateau Giscour Margeaux.

Pavilion Red from Chateau Margeaux is also very good without breaking the bank.
