When my son was about a year and a half, i begin to notice things that were different about him. i have 2 other children so i thought i knew what to expect. He seemed to start talking later than my other kids, around 2, he would also talk in scary voices and when he was asleep he would talk in his sleep in those voices. he was always a hard to manage child, hard for me to keep a sitter for him. When he turned 4 he started pre k, they sent him home till he was placed on meds, after i got him on meds and returned him to school, they sent him home till he was placed in special ed. the principal even told me he had never saw a child like that... he has probs with anger, he suddenly strikes out, he has stabbed a child at school and my older daughter, he at one time told me that his shadow talked to him, i just worry that maybe what is really wrong isnt being treated.. Dx: ADHD, PDD, ODD, Boarderline Intellectual Functioning, and he has Migraines. Thanks!

He has been to 4 diff drs. but it just seems that once they hear the other dr opinions nothing else is considered, and we dont have a lot of programs for him where i live.

i have a foster child who is three that sound a lot like yours i took him to a place called the Marcus Institute in Atlanta,Georgia they did full evaluations: genetics iq and behavioral he was diagnosed with a condition called RAD reactive attatchment disorder (really scary stuff) but it needs a specific type of treatment and it is really important to get this now! I think another place you can try is called May South you need to get a second opinion on this i went as far as a third opinion and all three gave a RAD diagnosis. this child also had headaches he would threaten to kill my husband and i and the other children in the house. He would hurt anything weeker like younger siblings and animals he tried to stab another child and would growl and stare he would also hear and see things that were not there and was paranoid that things might fall on him or that every one was out to get him. It was very hard and frustrating but the wrong kind of treatment can make this worse. If you get a diagnosis of rad you need to go to a therapist that is trained to deal with rad try checking out info on Nancy Thomas she is some one who is supposedly an expert with rad children.

That's a major problem with psychiatrists. Insist on an independent evaluation, start from scratch with a psychiatrist. Do not sign the records transfer waiver, explain that you want an independent evaluation based on a fresh perspective. If the doctor is not willing to do this, go to another doctor, until you find one willing to do it. It may be difficult, but please do it for your son. There could be a much bigger issue being ignored, such as schizophrenia. How old are you and your husband? There have been several studies tying the age of the father to higher instances of schizophrenia.

This does NOT sound like ADHD/PDD/ODD. My boyfriend has the above, and he does NOT behave anything like that, even OFF his meds.

How many docs has he seen? I wouldn't panic. Some people see that and get scared of the situation. Go to someone you have heard good remarks about. I don't know how big your town/city is, but try a bigger city. Try getting him diagnosed by 4 different doctors. Have you tried a psychiatrist? Look up similar symptoms online and try to diagnose it yourself. If you can find something similar online that makes more sense than those diagnoses, then bring that to the attention of the dr.

It sounds like he needs a child psychologist. If his shadows talk to him, that sounds like schizophrenia. He needs a complete exam and evaluation. I would make an appointment the sooner the better. Stabbing people at school is a bad sign as well. Good luck.

Just because a doctor tells you one thing, doesn't mean that's it. You're his mother. You know what's going on & what is or isn't working. Get another opinion. And if that doesn't satisfy you, get another. If all the doctors say the same thing, then most likely they are right. Try looking also for a specialist for him. They usually have more in-depth knowledge.

I know it's hard isn't it, we have two autistic children and it is not easy. But you can never get too many opinions. Keep trying until you feel you have the right answer. Give him lots of love, although I'm sure you do.

I would bring him to a psychologist and have him make an evaluation. What you have described does not sound like ADHD .... it sounds like something else that needs to be addressed.

Has it been considered he could be Bipolar? Or Schizophrenic?

You need another opinion - and not from a school rep.

I would say you need to take your child to see a specialist they will be able to tell you what the problem really is
