1. Do it for the right reason: Break up because you don't want to be with him, not to gain some sort of advantage over him in the future. He should not matter any more.
2. Do it in the right way: Be honest. Tell him when he shows off it embarasses you and when he tries to show YOU off it makes you feel cheap - or whatever is the real honest feeling for you.
3. Do it for sure. Don't tell him you want to be friends, just tell him it's over and say "Thanks for the good times" and walk away. It's easier if it's clean, certain and quick. It's not a time for debate.

Just come out and say what's on your mind. Something to the effect of it's not gonna work out, etc. (what to say depends on your own situation). If you beat around the bush or worse, avoid the situation and him altogether instead of confronting him, you'll make it worse. You'll either make him mad or hurt his feelings needlessly. You don't have to sugarcoat it too much either, just tell the truth without being unnecessarily harsh. Just make sure you're real with yourself, because most of the time staying in a relationship that makes you unhappy is worse than breaking up, even if it's hard to do sometimes.

Why don't you just tell him what you wrote. Tell him you are breaking up with him because he is full of himself and you are just fed up. Tell him you are tired of him showing you off and you want to end it. Pretty simple. You know what you want to say. Now just say it. Bye love!

get him to break up w/ u. do something soo that he won't want to show u off anymore, and then he'll get rid of u. then u can savor the fact that u were gonna dump him anyway- but he'll come off as a jerk and suffer through it... hehehe

Tell him exactly how you feel he might learn a lesson by it. Be honest and don't let him sweet talk you into leaving any open lines make sure it's over when your done.
