A pharaoh was traditionally the label given to someone who was the ruler of Egypt. He was, in Egyptian antiquity, the equivalent of God on earth to the people whom he lorded over. Generally, like most monarchs, he ascended to power through right of succession. In other words his father, or close male relative was a Pharaoh before him, and he inherited that right from his predecessor to be a Pharaoh.

Pharaohs were not only kings but were considered Gods.
Their power was great & undisputed by most of Eygpt.

Look up on emory.edu - do not use wikipedia - it is written in part by individuals & not always reliable. Google search Egyptian
Pharaoh. Good luck on homework.

the word pharaoh is egyptian, it is the equivalent of
King, Kaiser, Csar or more accurately Emperor because of the belief that they were Gods.
The titlel passed not directly through the 1st born son but through a daughter who married a son of the previous pharaoh.
The same as the egyptian goddess Isis (whose name means throne) who married Osiris
Thus many pharaohs were married to their sisters to solidify their claim to the throne. such as Cleopatra (the last Pharaoh of Egypt) who did not marry her brother but claimed the throne herself.
By the way, Cleopatra was not Egyptian. she was Greek, decended from Alexander the Greats General "Ptolmy" who inherited the throne when Alexander died.
