My cat is constantly wanting to smell, try and eat my food - I do give her little bits like custard, bread, meat...etc and she adores it. Is it ok though?

No problems to give your cat tasters as long as she doesn't get overweight and still eats her own food that is balanced to include the nutrients and vitamins etc. necessary for her good health.

First of all, if you are giving her scraps from the dinner table, that's a bad idea because you're teaching her a bad habit, which is to beg. You may not mind giving her food from your plate, but when you have guests over and she starts doing the same thing to them, they will definitely not like it. Your cat won't understand why she can beg sometimes but not during other times. Put it in her bowl; don't give it to her straight from your plate so she knows it's "hers".

Second, it's ok for cats to eat SOME human food, but only as occasional treats. Human food doesn't contain the nutrients cats need to be healthy. I sometimes give my kitten bits of salmon, egg, or steak, but she still eats cat food.

Also, be aware that some human food is poisonous to cats. For example, chocolate will kill them.

A cat should never eat human food. Cats are carnivores by nature so they need more protein in their diet. Most cat foods are specially formulated for the extra protein cats need in their diet, specifically a protein called taurine that is not found in dog food. Cats also tend to gain weight after they are spayed or neutered. The additional human food will add the weight fast. Trying to put your cat on a diet after they have gained weight is difficult because cats spend almost 75% of their lives sleeping. No matter how cute your cat looks when she is begging, don't give in! Your determination will be better for your cat in the long run.

Yes, as long as it's just little morsels as treats.

Cats have unique nutritional needs that human food doesn't meet, so it shouldn't be a major portion of kitty's diet.

Think of it like candy - a Snickers from time to time won't hurt you, but you wouldn't try to live on them. Same for cats with human food.

I am not too sure about giving your cat human foods but I do know that cats should not be given CHOCOLATE. This is because it contains a theobromine which is some form of a stimulant, which rarely has effect upon humans but causes a cats heart to beat irregularly, which is really dangerous. My advice to you would be cautious about what you give to your cat. Personally I think you would be okay giving your cat fresh meat and healthy foods but I do advise you to seek professional advice.

Not really. I have 2 cats and i will only give them a tiny bite of chicken or tuna juice ever now and then , not very often. There digestive tract can't handle alot of different food. Even changeing brands can mess there system up. That why you change a little at a time and not all at once.

Little treats everyonce in a while are ok..but I wouldnt get into the habbit or your cat will put on weight. Also she needs to eat proper cat food so that she gets the right nutrience. Try and get her cat treats and soft food for treats and give her that when your eating

NO

Teach your cat to eat cat food. Your vet can recommend the proper food for your cat as there is already a relationship there and nobody on YA could say which food IS best

Good luck

Bad Kitty! Bad Kitty, they are MY cheesy poofs!!! Bad kitty!!!

I had the same problem and it got a bit too much, I had to eat whilst my girlfriend kept them in our bedroom (they know how to open doors!)

Eventually we solved the problem by feeding them at the same time as we were eating. 1 week later they can sit next to me while I scoff a bargain bucket of spicy Zinger chicken without even a cursory glance in my direction.

On another note, cats will develop serious gastro-intestinal problems if you feed them rich foods for humans. Just like the bucket of chicken, it is bad for them but if no-one stops them...

Good luck

Just like it's actually ok if you eat cat food. It's not going to kill you! I used to have a cat like that too, she loved eggs and cheese, and obviously tuna and other fish! Just give her small portions to make her feel loved. Maybe in her past life she was a famous chef and misses fine cuisine!
