Okay, does anyone know the English equivalent to this Spanish proverb?
"Por el canto se conoce el pajaro."

Also, its not "by the song a bird is known" I already tried it. My Spanish teacher say s it has nothing to do with a bird and maybe something about friends

Literal translation "a bird is known by its song"

It's an idiom (a colloquial saying ) which translates roughly into "you know the bird by its song."
You would interject in in a place where in English we might say "what did you expect?" or " a leopard doesn't change his spots."

Your Spanish teacher is flat out wrong. The literal translation is exactly what you said it was.
It could be that your teacher was trying to make you understand that it is an adage that descibes how one can know one's friends.
You judge a person by what he say and does, NOT by what he says he does.
