I believe the Iraqis. Am tired of US military telling us how the Iraqis feel. Just tired.

BAGHDAD, Sept. 26 -- A strong majority of Iraqis want U.S.-led military forces to immediately withdraw from the country, saying their swift departure would make Iraq more secure and decrease sectarian violence, according to new polls by the State Department and independent researchers. In Baghdad, for example, nearly three-quarters of residents polled said they would feel safer if U.S. and other foreign forces left Iraq, with 65 percent of those asked favoring an immediate pullout, according to State Department polling results obtained by The Washington Post.
Another new poll, found that 71 percent of Iraqis questioned want the Iraqi government to ask foreign forces to depart within a year. By large margins, though, Iraqis believed that the U.S. government would refuse the request, with 77 percent of those polled saying the United States intends keep permanent military bases in the country..

Curt:
If the United States had NOT invaded & occupied Iraq, there would never had been any insurgents in the first place! This was Saddam's country! Not the US's.
And as far as dancing is concerned? If the U.S. leaves, you can believe they'll be dancing in the streets for a long time to come. One must also remember that Iraq is a country of approximately 25 million people. And yes, Saddam allegedly killed tens of thousands of Iraqi citizens, but this was while these people were under his regime.
But an even greater number of them (in fact, hundreds of thousands of them) have lost an additional hundreds of thousands more of families and friends
They will never forget that the United States of America is totally responsible for those staggering statistics. Remember that.
So. Give YOU a break?
No. You give ME a break.

Most unfortunately, I don't see this happening as long as the U.S. has a Republican President and administration.

Not sure why the state department would even do a poll like that but let's take it for face value.

If we pull out because a majority based on a poll said so, how do we know which religious sect was the majority of that poll? Were the people polled Sunni or Shiite (sp?)? I think for that reason alone we have to rely on the Iraq government to kick us out. It was recently reported that they are getting close and I personally think that's what we need. But leaving before the elected Iraqi government asks is the same as leaving before the job is done and will play into the hands of those idiots who have fanatical belief in muhmmad the founder of Islam. He's the guy who claimed victory with terror and believes women are prisoners who should have no control of their persons. Beyond the fact that they want to kill all Jews and still advocate taking child brides I would think you would be a little more tolerant of us trying to kill these people

Well let me ask you this. Would the Iraqis rather have their country over run by insurgents that scare them away from voting and even DANCING? They actually want to get rid of dancing. Give me a break.

Not with the way things are currently going. In my opinion, Bush needs to put a much bigger emphasis on training the Iraqi and Afghan Army, so that we can start withdrawing troops.

we will always need to have a mid east presence. Not only due to oil, however. The mideast is strategically located and connects Europe with Asia. As a military base, and trade route, we will always needs to ensure a presence in the mid east to protect our interests (oil, trade, Israel).

The people of the mid east region do not want us there, and I personally dont think we belong there. But even if the dumbass Bush is president or not, we will continue to have US Troops there.
