Crates do not "suck". Dogs are den animals and they like to have their own space to sleep or otherwise chill out.
My dogs go no more than 4 hours at a time in their crates, unless it is at night. I am able to come home at lunch every day to let them out. But I know people whose dogs can be in a crate all day (8 hours) and be fine, bathroom-wise.
Please do not let anyone tell you that it is cruel to keep your dog in a crate. A crate is actually the safest place for a dog to be when you can't watch him/her.

I keep a dog in a crate during the day. dogs usually won't go where they sleep, if you make it go outside before you leave, it should be able to stay in the crate for at least 8 hours. Mine has been in the crate up to 10, when I was runnin late

It depends on the breed. If it is a large active dog, not a long time however if it is smaller lap-dog you can crate them for a loner time. It also depends on the age of your dog and whether they are used to being in crates for long periods of time. If it is a puppy I suggest that you do not crate them for extended periods of time until they are used to it.
Keeping a dog caged up isn't a very good idea anyway but don't go over 4 or 5 hours

Dogs should not be in a crate longer than 4 hours. If possible gate off a bathroom or laundry room.

I think that dogs can last in crates for a while, so probably a few days.

I think it's cruel to leave any dog in a crate for longer than 4 hours, unless it is nightime and it sleeps through the whole night.

For at least a day. A dog finds that as its home and likes to be there instead of just out on its own. They find the house is to big and so they get into mischief.

Well how old is the dog if it is a puppy it will have to go to the bath room every few hours.. if it is an older dog I would say that 5 hours is proably ok, but no longer then that. they need to be out to strech and go to the bathroom.
