If someone test for hiv and has hepatitis why wouldn't an indetermine or something show up ?

as fara s i know they both check for antibodies and also antigen so whould they show up ? or do they have seperate antibodies ?

Two different antibodies. When they do a HIV test, they are only checking for certain things. Same as when they are checking for Hep

In the lab, we used different reagents and machines to detect HIV and Hepatitis. For hepatitis, yes we check for both the antigen and antibodies from the patients blood sample. Viruses stimulate the production of antibodies that are very specific to each virus. IgG antibody usually is a sign of late or past infection while IgM indicates current infection. Newer tests that look for the antigen are often ordered to rule out current infection. These are very helpful with certain viruses that cause delayed antibody production like HIV. These usually look for specific virus RNA which is made from the virus DNA. They are called PCR tests.

chances are, if they are not testing for antibodies, it would not show up. now, hiv has some indications of infection in regular blood lab, but with hepatitis c, this is not the case. due to it's natural occurance in some that are infected with hcv, the alt and ast levels may not show an increase. this is why if your being tested to have the run the actual antibody test.

Every virus has its own antibodies.
