No. Its a myth that we "let anybody in". It is very difficult to come to the UK unless you live in the EEC. We are benefiting from the Eastern Europeans coming here. The Polish government is in crisis as it can not stop the "brain drain" as skilled people are flocking to the UK. Stop reading the Daily Fascist and believing the lies about immigrants. Britain only benefits from migrants from East Europe. Its total lies that we just open our doors to any-one. This is a great country with loads more opportunities than other countries. Good luck to the immigrants that take advantage of those opportunities, its not their fault if the locals can not see it for themselves.......Oh and before you all start - Polish people are NOT entitled to benefits when they come here. No immigrants are. Asylum seekers are given basic needs whilst there case is being assesed but thats our obligation to do so! Bogus asylum seekers have NOTHING to do with immigration.

I thought for one horrific moment you were going to suggest that we walk upside down and waltz with Matilda.
Most of our skilled workforce and professionals are on the move to the Antipodes anyway.
Because our Government, starting with Mrs T, has sold off and outsourced our traditional industries we have become a service industry based economy. There is a dangerous culture of 'easy money' and dependence on the state to provide.
We have to start producing to move forward. The imported skills and work ethics that the Eastern Europeans bring with them are filling the gap in the vocational skills area but this is not sustainable unless we invest in apprenticeships and vocational training.
Another aspect that has to be addressed is that the birth rate is not keeping abreast of the higher life expectancy and the subsequent cost of providing pensions for longer.
Basically, we need more young hardworking young people to repopulate this country and to get there, we need to be not too rigid in regulation of quotas.
Globalization is eventually inevitable but with careful management need not be the disaster that many predict.

Sounds like a good policy. Canada also allows immigrants with useful skills and professions to pay something like $100,000 cash to jump to the front of the line for immigration
Seems like a nation would do better to encourage immigrants to become a part of the existing culture rather than not.

We do have a similar system in place. Its called the HSMP (Highly Skilled Migrant Program). To be awarded the privilege of living and working in the UK, you must be able to prove your trade and get enough points in order to be eligible.
This program has been running for a few years now.

In Wales we have a policy of only allowing immigrants who are 6ft 5in, ball-carrying forwards, who can do 100 metres in 10 seconds.

That's a hard one to answer, considering that the true Australians are Aborigine. I suppose the only qualifications that should be needed to stay if you are white is a long term prison conviction.
