I was about to do this once, but my sister was adamant that it's rude to do so.

No it's not. All you have to do is call back and ask if someone from that phone had called you. Chances are, it was someone you know and they used a different number. It's normal.

No it isn't rude. What is rude is when they call let the answering machine or voice mail pic up and the hang up. My theory is if it is important they will either leave a message or call back.

Bill collectors are the worse. If the number isn't local i go on the computer and type the zip code to see where the call is coming from. If it is from another state that I don't have any family in, i just ignore it.

I don't know if it's rude, but sometimes if someone uses my phone to call someone and they don't answer later I will get a call from people who are VERY RUDE about the way they ask who called. Like 'Someone from this number called my phone. Who are your?" Well, excuse me, but it is none of their business who I AM, because I didn't make the call. There are more polite ways to talk to people. Or maybe someone called a wrong number and they didn't realize it. So just leave it alone, they'll call back if they want to talk to you.

No it is not rude because this person called you, there is nothing wrong calling that number back to find out who it is. I do it all the time and the majority of the time it's a wrong number...

No. It would be rude to NOT call them back. Just politely tell them your name and that you are returning the call and that you are sorry that you missed their call....Some people feel very uncomfortable using answering machines. Ask your sister why she thinks it would be rude to call back. I like the rule about no calls between 8:00 PM and 8:00AM .Don't call between those times. Consider time zones.

it is not rude to do that! they called you. obviously it was for a reason. if it was a wrong number, the least they could do is let you know that...hello...voicemail! They called you first, you ahve every reason to call them back. If it is someone that might take offense, just let them know that you didn't recognize the number, and you just wanted to make sure you didn't miss an important call!

No its not rude to call the number back. I actually just called a number that called me. Just call back and say hi I just missed a call from this number, and thats it. See if they say anything. If its a wrong number, they will let you know and you say no problem!

It is perfectly fine, especially since a message was not left. Call back and say your name and number and ask who may have called. If it is from a business, ask what the business is called. Then you could probably figure out on your own who it was. Most often though, they will call again.

I don't know if it's rude, but it may be a waste of time and an unnecessary interrruption. Answering machines are cheap. If they don't leave a message, you can bet there is little to gain by calling them back.

Just a thought.
