She has been sleeping with us for about 6 months and I want her out! I'm thinking a dog bed, then treating her like crazy when she gets in it. Any other ideas? Thanks!

Sometimes the dog wants to be with you because they associate your scent with comfort. Take an old t-shirt and put it in a doggy bed. Everytime she gets in bed with you, you have to make her get down. She need to know you mean business, so you can't let up. I have my dog's bed placed by the window with her own special blanket and she's happy as a lark now. She hated it for the first 6 months we had her. But now she goes right to her bed.

Crate training is a great way to get a dog used to having his or her own space. If you buy a dog crate and leave the door open and make it all comphy in side- most dogs will actually prefer to sleep in their own space due to an natural denning instinct. Make sure there are lots of yummy chew toys like raw hide and hoofies and dog biscuits in there at first.
To get her used to the idea without causing seperation anxiety I would suggest putting the crate next to the bed at first. Then whenever she jumps on the bed say "NO" in a firm voice. Make sure to put her in her crate and praise her like crazy.
I will be honest with you- it is going to take a long time and it will NOT be easy. You have to be 100% consistent or you will just confuse the puppy.
Good luck. As frustrating a path as you have ahead- it is possible. I did the same thing with my dog at about the same age.

When you find the answer let me know too!!!My husband works mids but when he has the night off-2 is company 3 is a crowd!!!We shut the door and the dog will whine and the cats-yes- other animals like to sleep in bed with us too, will paw on the door until they drive us crazy and we have to open it. I was just thinking of that last night after another night of contortionistic sleeping!!! The dog is spoiled and we did it to them!

I would try a dog bed or just shut the door. My brother used to let the dog in his room and sleep on his bed and he got tired of it once the dog wasn't a puppy anymore. He used a dog bed in the hallway or in his room. Good Luck!

Give up the Dog Is Spoiled.Or put a small dog bed in your room or like me I use a love seat I got out of the garbage

I made that mistake by putting my puppy in the bed because I felt sorry for him after being neutered. Well, that was almost 3 yrs ago. The only time he gets in his dog bed is to lounge. He even comes get me when he gets tired and wants to go "nite-nite." Yes, SPOILED but I can't stand the whining when I try to leave him on the floor at night. Thank goodness he's a mixed poodle breed and doesn't shed.
So I have resorted to letting him stay and I wipe his butt (yes I do) and his paws after he comes in so that he's able to get on the bed.

Well the easiest way is to say "off" when the dog gets on and push her off. I let my dog sleep on my bed but thats just me. Just keep up with the command off and pushung her off until she learns. The other option is puppy classes. Good luck.

Oh! booyakate how ungrateful you are! She is paying you a big compliment. She is showing her approval of your choice of sleeping apparatus, and possibly even your partner. Don`t upset her by giving her the boot! I once had to share my bed with a great soppy rottweiler who hid her pongy old bones under my pillow! (yuck) I tried to give her the boot. The matter was only resolved when I went into another bedroom to sleep.
So heres` hoping that you have a spare bedroom!

Hey, she shares the bed with you, why not return the favor? It's a little late to take that comfort away from her now. Are you the kind of person who gives candy to a baby and then takes it away?
Just let her sleep with you.

PLEASE let me know if you find a solution!!! We have 3 dogs that sleep in our bed every night...it's a pain! We bought them a bed and laid it next to ours and every time they get on our bed we tell them to get down and make them lay on their bed. It works while we're awake, but they always get up in the middle of the night and we wake up trapped. Good luck with this one!
