+ You are not going to get the good answer that you want for this. It will be a number like between 10,000 and 20,000 because of troops moving around as that is what they do. some could be in planes, at training, approaching by air, leaving by air. And the other side is who is counted? Only Navy and Army or maybe Private Security Personnel hired by the US Gov? CIA? Marines? Coast Guard? Air Force that fly from a base outside the country? Embassy Staffs investigating whatever? Medical Service Personnel? Sorry, but you need to ask the question differently to get the answer that you are looking for. Try asking how many US military ground combatant? the might be answerable.

About 10,000 troops.
There are not nearly enough to do the job necessary. That is for sure. The number of troops in Afghanistan is only a fraction of the troops we have in Iraq. Considering that the terrorist haven is over there, and not in Iraq, we can really see how misplaced our priorities are.

according to many generals and ex-army men, there aren't enough troops on the ground in Afghan. Rumsfeld is a rather stupid man when it comes to the military. He's OK forecasting wall street.
