Do you think that a jail cells should be in the shape they're in? Or do you think that criminals deserve the conditions? From what I can tell they're just uncomfortable bunk beds, a toilet her, a sink there. No privacy. And, what if an innocent man is found guilty in a verdict? They don't deserve such horrible conditions of their new home. And even guilty people, if they're going to live the rest of their lives in a run-down cell, don't you think they could at least make the jails tolerable? Thanks for your opinion.

What are you basing this on? I gather that you have visited a jail recently.

The jails that I have been to (Hillsborough County, Polk County, and Starke State Prison) have been very clean and well maintained.

I don't think that the conditions are bad. In fact, they are very suitable for them. They are given a bed, a toilet/sink, and sometimes a chair and table. At Starke some prisoners are allowed to have a small B&W television.

Privacy isn't an issue. They weren't sent to their room by their parents, they are criminals. As for the innocent in jail. There are laws on the books to allow them to recoup monies from the state. It's unfortunate, but remember it was a jury of their peers that put them there. It's unfortunate, but I recognize that it does happen.

Prisoners have it pretty good considering the grief, pain, and problems they have caused society and their victims. Believe me it could be worse.

I've never been in one but American jails are probably the most comfortable in the world.
Of course, they should be in tolerable conditions. However, should someone that intentionally broke the law, let's say murdered someone have a priviledge of a warm bed and cable TV (as most prisons do). I dont think so. After all they do make a choice to break the law and therefore suffer the consequences.

Tolerable is a matter of opinion, right? What my wife tolerated while in labor, I think would kill me.
An innocent person being found guilty is a risk we run in any system of justice. The alternative is no justice system, which is unjust to victims (past and future).
Jails should definitely be a place you don't want to come back to, or even worse.

I think all jails should be based on the example of the Maricopa County Jail under Sheriff Joe Ariapo. No cigarettes allowed. Meals are $.40 each and the inmates pay for them, chain gangs to work on improving county property, females on chain gangs so there's no sex discrimination charges, only "G" movies allowed, no coffee because it has no nutritional value, piped in Newt Gingrich inspirational tapes, and the Sheriff says "This isn't the Ritz Carleton so, if you don't like it, don't come back!"

Yeah, they deserve bad conditions. We should create labor camps like they did in Siberia and send all our criminals there to do hard labor. I am not saying create concentration camps, but create work camps where we don't exactly torture them, but we don't give them a five star hotel to live. We should worsen jail conditions because we have the most pleasent jails in the world and that is not good. You should see Mexico. They have jails that are like prisoner of war camps and Mexico does not get criticized for that. Criminals don't deserve to be pampered. If I were president, I would create more rehab facilities, but send the drug dealers to prison, because a lot of drug users come from bad lives and it is not their fault they are using drugs. It is the dealers fault. Dealers sell drugs that kill, so they are basically murders, so they have to learn a lesson. Murders, child predators and rapists I would send to labor camps for life, because they hurt helpless people for no reason. Those are all things i take very seriously and it makes me angry that they only get several years in jail sometimes. I once thought we should hang them all, but some of them could be innocent adn improperly convicted.

Yes lets make them more comfortable, where people wont mind going. Maybe some good cooking and an xbox 360 in every room. I think maybe turn down service and mints on the pillows are in order as well.

Bring back Alcatraz!! Inmates can get a decent education at the expense of the taxpayers. Gee, I had to actually PAY for mine. As long as we are making them like hotels, let's let them check in and out when ever they want to. If jails and prisons were nastier, maybe there would be less crime.

You are absolutly right! Jails should be like hotels!! They should have good food, and fine entertainment! Why should punishment be bad? Punishment should be something society wants! Jail should be a place where everyone would love to be!! XD You're funny.

I think if a person is guilty they get what they deserve, many facilities have TV, computers, etc. it's not hotel commendations.
