My god daughter just started this year and this is what they tested her on:

Vision, Hearing, Had her Jump, Skip, Hop on 1 foot.

They showed her flashcards of common items (like an apple and a car) they asked her what the item was, and then what she done with it..........she said apple, and I dont like to eat them but my sissy does...to cute!

They had her put plastic shapes in the right holes and ask her the color of the shapes.

They built a tower of blocks, and had her build a tower like they did.....then they would remove 1 block and have her remove 1.

I think they just were looking at basic motor skills and learning skill level.

I'm pretty sure they are not tested on anything. The only requirement at the preschool by me that my son will be attending is that they are potty trained. My son loves learning new words and spelling his name. I have a lot of educational books that are also fun for him. I think the educational stuff will come at their own pace but socializing him so he/she is used to other kids and how to play well with them is the parents job. You don't want him/her to find it hard to make friends.

Usually, depending on the preschool, they just have to be potty trained (at least it was that way with my daughter). Kindergarten is when they want them to know how to spell their name and tie their shoes... but kids aren't tested for it.

best thing you can do is ask that preschool he is attending, also ask to visit so you and your child Will know what to expect - it was very helpful to us and the preschool was very agreeable to it

Mostly interaction with other children, any thing else is extra.
so fear not you do not need a brain for a kid, just help him get involved with other children his age.
