When I got my first Rottweiler no one knew what they were! They were very uncommon, and mine was really a great dog, everyone wanted one! Now they are super popular, and have a very bad reputation. Hopefully, that will make people think twice before running out and getting one.

Rotts are a difficult breed. They need firm consitant handling, and lots of socialization. They need early obedience training that continues through their lives. The defintly need a strong leader, as they are dominate, and will "take the lead" if given a chance. With a Rott, there is not alot of room for mistakes. A Chihuahua growling at you for his toys or food is "cute", not so cute when it is a Rott!

Rotts are also slow to mature. A 8 month old is still a puppy, and around 18 months to two years they quit acting "silly" and become dignified and reserved with strangers. Most people don't understand this, and think their dog has "changed", no, he just grew up! They also act very nice and non-aggressive if their owner is around, but once "mom" is gone, the duty to protect things is on them and they know it! If your friends say your dog is mean when you are not home, and you have a Rott, BELIEVE them!

This is only a small amount of what you need to know, do alot of research before getting one. Make sure you are up to the challenge, and make sure you go to a good breeder.(Conformation titles are less important than obedience titles and health clearances with this breed!) Find a good obedience class before you get your puppy.

Before I close, I will say, that I love Rotts. I have done rescue work with this breed for 15 years(over 250 dogs), and have NEVER had a bite incident. I also have six kids, and would trust my dogs with them, but I never leave them alone, either! Good luck in your decision!

The problem with rottweilers is that they've become too popular which means that the back yard breeders are breeding them in droves. Any breed that gets popular has it's temperament ruined first, followed by physical problems. If you want a rottweiler, by all means get one - just make good and sure it's from a reputable breeder and not a back yard breeder.

Rotweilers can be the cutest, ncest dogs. Don't let the media get to you. They are fabulous dogs and very loving, if you treat them right. If they are treated badly, they tend to react badly (i.e. if they are beatena nd neglected a lot... then they lose a sense of right and wrong). Some dogs get a bad name because of breed - quite honestly, get a mixed breed of anything, sometimes pure breds are so inbred that they become stupid and violent.

If you have the room and time to exercise a Rotty, get one.The biggest problem (the reason you hear about them and other breeds in the news) is that the owners do not train and pay enough attention to their pups/dogs.There is nothing inherantly dangerous about any breed if you raise it properly.

Rotts are very sweet loving dogs. Don't believe everything you hear on the news. They only publicize the bad stuff as that's what they think people want to hear.

I see no problem in getting one. Although you should check the line (the parnets, gradpartes of the dog) to make sure its a nice line. Like no killing or any thing is in there. But as long as you train it right, There should be no problem!

check the laws in your city/county. Some don't allow them, some charge an extra tax or make you get extra insurance on your house.
