Gen Patton said it best. "You have to admire the enemy and respect them before you can beat them". However, in the case of the Iraq war it is the USA who are the terrorist.

Not sure of you quote. I know he did say "you have to KNOW your enemy to be able defeat them." Don't think he mentioned respect. You have been torn up many times for misquoting people. Not sure why a Lefty like yourself would quote one of the more Right Wing Army commanders ever. What ever works I guess. Here are a couple real Gen Patton quotes.
"Americans do not surrender."
"The only thing to do when a son of a ***** looks cross-eyed at you is to beat the hell out of him right then and there."
"There is nothing democratic about war. It is a straight dictatorship. The use of force to attain the end desired."

For someone who says they have served, you still know nothing about the term freedom.

I respect them for the determination they show, but not the values they believe in. These class of humans are called terrorist, which to me, is only slightly more prestigious than the classification of pond scum (ask any Marine the same question and I assure you, their answers are more ugly than this).

If USA is the terrorist in this case, then why are you still here? General Patton was right in that his remark was meant for the Germans, they were doing what they think was for the good of the country.

In this case, you might be thinking "Hey, so are the terrorist. What's the difference?"

The difference is that they would kill without remorse just to justify their actions. They also use God's name (Allah and his prophet's name) as a shield and banner to spread their word.

Any conflict fought in the name of religion is a cowards act. I'm not a religious person, but I believe (correctly in this case, since I actually went through the Quran, and did not find anything which say anything about killing men, women or children indiscriminately) that all religion advocates peace and harmony as one of the most important conditions.

Hey guy.! I've been out of circulation for awhile. I had to get some metal removed from my body I've been carrying around for 39 years ( courtesy of North Vietnam and Angola). Naw, don't respect the insurgents. You can respect the way they fight as you would a copperhead for you had better if you intend to (1). live,(2) fight back better, (3) win. I had respect for the North Vietnamese but the VC none what so ever. I used to piss on my kills when I could for I took that saying to heart. I respected their booby-traps for they created some very good ones. I had to quit fighting their way for most Americans didn't condon those tactics. I've asked you before. Would our troops get more respect and quicker victories if we inturn fought the way the insurgents do or would that just light another fire on the discussion block? Me, I'd rather fight them the way they fight us. It seems that when we do the opposing force runs to the UN crying foul! I have always found that amazing and even more humorous is that a lot of American citizens feel the same way the enemy does. General Patton was a great general and if you had studied his tactics in WW2 he learned the art of attacking from the Panzer commanders and their theories of modern armored warfare. Fight the enemy their way and you will win and to hell with all of the bleeding hearts who think and say that it is cruel and inhumane. Mien Gott! We are fighting a war here. Not a sporting event! I see that you are still pissing off the vast majority and maybe that is just what this country needs... to really get pissed off and go for the kill. Then, we can move on to the next one for they are always out there waiting to turn lives upside down and inside out. Thank God we have great and wonderful youth in our Armed Forces. Those are the ones who I respect and admire. They've got balls... even the women!

Think a little more about that before you talk out of context.

He is not talking about respecting or admiring the thing they fight for, he is talking about admiring and respecting the way they fight, the fervor with which they fight, and the way they adhere to their ideals (but NOT the ideals themselves). This is a reference to Sun Tzu's The Art of War, actually.

He is saying, in order to defeat the insurgents, you must actually admire how they fight in a way...you cannot think it is unfair, because that doesn't change it. You cannot think it is worse than your own, or you will become complacent. Admiring it will lead to an understanding of it. You cannot defeat what you do not understand...

As far as respect goes, yes...you must respect your enemy and understand how they arrived where they are.

By taking that statement out of context the way you have, you do a great disservice to General Patton and to those who fight. I really hope that you simply did not understand what you were doing.

how is the US the terrorist? explain this please, see this is what makes you so annying, you say things like this but have no proof and site no examples of the US as being a terrorist. i guess building schools and hospitals and giving the iraqi people the right to vote and giving our lives to protect them makes us terrorists. WOW!!!! you really have lost your mind erudite. and Patton was talking about a real enemy, an army if you will, not about b-itch -a-ss insurgents who won't fight a fair fight.Patton was talking about Rommel and the germans, who were an army, and fought in some civilized manner, big difference. i really believe that you are a communist.

Patton is right, you are wrong. You have to respect that your enemy is out there fighting for his cause and is risking the same things you are.

Do you even know what insurgents goals are? Insurgents are similar to the KKK, in that they want to scare people out of voting. They also have goals such as outlawing dancing. They are terrorist, they would kill you and your family without thinking twice. You need to seriously step back and think about what you are saying. People like you make me sick.

I find it interesting that you quote General Patton and refer to the USA as a terrorist state, all in the same breath. Are you suggesting we admire insurgents in Iraq and respect them? Oh that makes much sense. As great and passionate as Patton was on the battlefield, his political charm and ascension up the ranks in the military was not exactly stellar.

I don't know what terrorism the USA inflicts in Iraq, other than giving Shi'ites free reign to shoot and kill Sunnis as they please (something they'd been hoping the USA would allow them to do after the invasion). The war in Iraq is now IRAQ's war to manage, not America's. We are there to secure the elected government's control and operation within Iraq's borders. Iraq's military will have to silence the insurgencies within the country.

Your sad attempt at quoting military speeches and somehow trying to spin them into a poorly connected take on America's involvement in Iraq is pathetic and ignorant. And completely hilarious to boot.

Well go to Iraq and be one of them, then you will see that being an enemy of the U.S isn't a good idea, because you will get your @ss killed by the worlds best military. Sure, we have lost 2,708 of our troops. But that's what happens in a war, we must not give up and win this war.

Anyways, you are an idiot.

I assume you live there with the insurgents and you are able to freely express your opinion.

I did not think so, you are an American and a bad one at that. You have no idea what freedom is and you abuse your freedom by trying insight crap with your idiotic question. Hopefully one day you will truly appreciate the freedom that you currently don't deserve!

You need some history lessons. Try starting in the 1920's and figure out who the terrorist really are.
