People with short tempers are often on their own self-made emotional roller coaster. Perhaps, if they experience some real stress, they will become less aggravated with the smaller stresses as things improve. You can't rely on that, but there are such examples.
If you are dealing with such a person, it is important to remain loyal and supportive (if they are nonviolent) while not doing things that enable or encourage their angry behavior. In other words, don't cover for them. Let them see the full consequences of their anger. Don't help them to feel less than responsible for their anger.
