A SIMPLE PRAYER
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace
Where there is hatred.... let me sow love.
Where there is injury.... pardon.
Where there is discord.... unity.
Where there is doubt....faith.
Where there is error.... truth.
Where there is despair.... hope.
Where there is sadness.... joy.
Where there is darkness,.... light.
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
To be consoled...... as to console.
To be understood.... as to understand.
To be loved...... as to love.
For
It is in giving.... that we receive.
It is in pardoning, that we are pardoned,
It is in dying...... that we are born to eternal life.

It's attributed to Francis of Assisi, born Francesco di Bernardone. It's very beautiful, is it not? I don't believe every word, but I do admire it, nonetheless.
Another of his I like:
Where there is charity and wisdom, there is neither fear nor ignorance.
Where there is patience and humility, there is neither anger nor vexation.
Where there is poverty and joy, there is neither greed nor avarice.
Where there is peace and meditation, there is neither anxiety nor doubt.

The Peace Prayer of St. Francis apparently dates from the early part of this century, and its author is unknown. It was found in Normandy in 1915, written on the back of a holy card of St. Francis, from which the name comes. Other histories ascribe it to a time before St. Francis, and some believe he indeed did write it, but the above is the most commonly accepted history of the prayer.

I think it was St. Thomas Aquinas. It was either him or St. Francis of Assisi, I cannot remember, but it's really beautiful.

There are so many poems out there that are a meaningful as this one is, and most of them you will find at the bottom. 'Author Unknown". This is probably one of them.

Francis of Asinine because that's what it is.
Religion is anathema to what is asks for.
