eat like hell before surise and after sunrise. My friend is muslim and he told me he ate like 3 sandwhiches a half a bag of chips, 3 sodas for dinner one day

The hunger will pass. The sacrifice you are making will make you a better person. It's only for 30 days and you do get to eat before sunrise and after sundown.
You will live and when the hunger is really bothering you, say a little prayer.
The hunger can be psychological too....kind of like when they turn the water off at home to repair something....all of a sudden, you're thirsty.

In my religion we also fast. I feel that hunger is important it reminds you of why you are fasting. I appreciate the hunger for that reason. It helps me to go about my day with a smile on my face if I look at the hunger as a friend rather than an enemy.

for a start you should have a good breakfast before sunrise - as for stopping the hunger one good way is to wash your teeth or rinse your mouth with a non-alcoholic mouth-wash. the strong menthol taste of either is usually a good way of keeping your salivary glands happy for a while.
I'm not a muslim so i wouldn't know, is it ok to chew on some gum and to drink water? If so gum will tend to keep you off thinking of food, while lots of water will give you that 'bloated' feeling and therefore keep your stomach from complaining.

Drink plenty of water - occasionally eating an icecube (don't know if that counts!) helps my hunger

drink a lot of fluids. fruit juice is good because it actually has vitamins and calories and that will help. you'll have to pee like crazy but if you are drinking all the time you wont be nearly as hungry

By feeling hungry , you will feel the suffering of poor hungry people and your heart will soften. Feeling hungry actually will expose you to the real meaning of fasting.
