Law enforcement agencies around the country are split on having
police officers take on immigration enforcement. Some officials
are behind the move, while some are uniting against it.
Is this a good idea, would police
officers be another way to stop the endless flow of
illegal aliens into this country. ?

Theoretically yes - after all the police is there to stop all kinds of illegal activities. .

But practically I see major problems. Imagine the size of jails they would need and all the extra costs for deportation.
And because of the sheer number of illegal immigrants in some areas - that would distract police from more important tasks. Like - I prefer to be protected from thieves and murderers in the first place.
Besides all the information police does not have about the status of an immigration application. The immigration offices are a totally different entity. And the laws and regulations around that are very complicated too.

And one more thing...let's assume the taxpayers agree to a couple extra billions to support that effort and millions of illegal immigrants are deported, and the ones which come in new as well. Do you really think this would be good for the economy? Come on....are your sure there are enough Americans willing to do all the low paid lousy jobs?

Finally - and this is more a moral standpoint. Within all the wealth this country has and among the roots (all immigrants) wouldn't it be fair to share? Share with the poorest in the world? The ones who are so desparate to come to the US and live here?
I believe it would be very inhumane to put a major effort into "defending" our wealth against the "poverty". Usually such thinking backfires. Just because we all live together in much more complex interaction than just earning money.

It's a great idea. Unfortunately, it seems that a spell has been cast over the government and law enforcement that causes them to COMPLETELY IGNORE the immigration problem.

maybe yes maybe no what would stop them is when you are in deep split if your caught hiring them . Like lose your license or get a serious fines, make sure its inforced and in one month they;ll no its awaiste of time to come to america nobody is gonna hire . I TALKEDto imagrents once and they said america is to dum to stop us we will eventully over run america werethere will be to many of us to stop .Because he said that i had him and his friends deported then told him we;ll worry wbout rest later.the only way we can stop is if the public gets involved they have to no the law is gonna be inforced and there world will dam near end if there caught hiring illeagles.

I dont think police officers should take on immigration enforcement. They have real criminals to worry about and it would only create unecessary racism against all minorities. Imagine...my husband is a legal permanent resident that is Mexican. What would stop them from harassing him everytime they saw him driving? What would keep them from making him get down on the ground and putting cuffs on him til they could verify his greencard? Would you like your loved ones to go through this constantly?

Well let's see,,,,,hummm, police enforcing the law? Naw, it would probably not be politically correct. Besides the demos and leftys might get upset.
