My husband was born in Mexico. He came over 30 years ago to the USA. He was issued a green card and is considered a legal resident. He has a drivers license and SSN...I keep thinking and telling him he can vote. But, he says no he can't. Just wanted to get another answer..

I'm surprised by all the "yes" answers. Perhaps if you live in California (where the laws are constantly changing to accomodate our visitors from the south), but around here, you actually have to be a citizen to vote. A resident alien (with a green card) is not a citizen.

He cannot vote unless he's a legal US citizen. A green card and a SSN just state that he can legally stay in the US and work here. A driver's licenses allows him to drive in the US.

He can't vote unless he is a naturalized citizen. A legal resident is NOT the same thing as a citizen and does not have the right to vote.

Only legal United States citizens are allowed to vote. This is clearly indicated on the voter registration form but if you have questions call your local election board.

no he can't vote until he becomes an American Citizen. If you are married to him, and he has a green card, it would be so easy for him to become an American Citizen, and then he can vote. I know this because I did the same thing! :) good luck

Only a legal citizen can vote, you can't vote if you only have a green card. I think your hubby is right, he can't vote. The key word is citizen!

Only US citizens can vote. If he goes through the process of becoming a citizen, then he will be able to vote.

No, he is not allowed to vote. Is required for voters to be citizen. He should fill out his citizenship forms already if infact he is wanting to participate in the voting frenzy.
