I've been going through the same thing. I think I want to go into nursing, but I want to be completely sure. So here are some tips that have helped me so far: there's a ton of information on the internet, just search cardiologist job description for example. You'll find exactly what you can do with that job, and how to get there. I've been doing a lot of research, and I'm planning to take some intro-type classes in school to see if I can handle it, without making too big of a commitment in case I change my mind. You could also try job-shadowing. Most likely you could find a cardiologist at a hospital near you that would let you follow them around for a day, or at least let you interview them. Well, good luck! (Sorry this was really long!)

being a doctor takes a long time. You definitely have to be commited to the field. Try volunteering and ask physicians in your area. Don't just ask the one that has been in practice for a long time, ask a medical student, a resident, a doc that is early in his/her career and the one that has been in it for many years. Also talk to a variety of physicians not just the cardiologist. Every field of medicine has its ups and downs.
If you do go on to med school keep an open mind about the field you go into. I changed my mind several times, started and completed 2 1/2 years of surgery residency then changed my mind and decided to go into a different field of medicine, anesthesia.

Cardiology is a fast growing field. Many in your town would be glad to talk with you and even let you hang with them one day so you can see what it is all about. Just call and ask. Be sure to see if you can be there when they are in the cath lab. Most doctors love it. I am a tech in a OR.
