nothing

now, "La seule DONT vous avez besoin" would mean, "the only one you need"

Antoine Bachmann is right: "dont" is missing.

yerem (something) is worng when he says that you NEED "chose". "chose" is implied. But you definitely need "dont"

So, you could say: "la seule dont vous avez besoin" (the only one you need): which implies that you have already talked about the thing you need. This sentence, however, can only be used in a specific situation. But I think it would also be the case in English, wouldn't it?

Or: "La seule chose dont vous avez besoin" (the only thing you need).

i'm french and i can tell you it doesn't mean anything because it lacks a word.

I translate word by word your sentence = the only you need
i think it is "the only thing you need" so in french it is = la seule chose dont vous avez besoin

The correct phrasing is : la seule dont vous avez besoin, meaning the only one in need.

This dont means of. The verb avoir besoin links with de. This de becomes dont when
objectif preceeds verb. Instead of saying vous avez besoin de la seule, you may say
la seule dont vous avez besoin. Is it clear now ?
