my mother used to make a cake called "plain cake" seriously. i came home from school one day and asked her what she was baking. she said a cake. i said what kind? she said plain old ordinary every day cake. it's funny now but the cake was delicious. it had a marshmallow type frosting. unfortunately we lost mom about 5 years ago and i need to find out if my grandma has the recipe. it was awesome. thanks for the "sweet" memory.

Spiced Baked Apples

Peel and core four apples. Fresh Red Delicious seem to work the best
Put the apples in a oven proof glass pan
Take some Red Hot candies and fill the apple cores
Bake at 400 deg for about 30 minutes or until the Red Hots are melted and the apples are soft
Put each apple into a bowl and spoon the melted Red Hots over the apples
Enjoy!

My Mom made awesome brownies, banana bread and pumpkin pie and yep I make them too. Not all that often. The brownies bring back memories of everyone getting together for summer holiday picnics. She had a special pan for them and made an awesome frosting. She is not much of a cook but these three things she makes very well.

CHOCOLATE ECLAIRS

ECLAIR:

1 c. water
1/2 c. butter
1 c. flour
4 eggs

Bring to rolling boil water and butter. Take off heat. Add flour and stir with spoon until ball can be formed. Add eggs. Beat like crazy. Mix until dough is very stiff; otherwise it will run all over pan. Drop by full teaspoons onto a cookie sheet for individual serving; put in a circular ring or in a strip. Bake 45-50 minutes at 400 degrees. Cool out of draft.

FILLING:

2 pkg. instant French vanilla pudding
2 1/2 c. milk
1 (8 oz.) container Cool Whip
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix pudding and milk. Mix well. Fold in Cool Whip and vanilla. Slice eclair in half and fill generously with entire amount of filling. Replace top of eclair. Drizzle top of eclair with Chocolate Sauce.

CHOCOLATE SAUCE:

6 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 1/3 c. canned milk
1/2 c. butter
2 c. powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla

Melt chocolate chips and butter together. Gradually add milk and powdered sugar. Bring to boil. Stir continuously. Boil for 8 minutes. Remove from heat and add vanilla.

Monkey bread

it is bread rolls rolled in melted butter then rolled in a sugar and Cinnamon mixture then placed in bunt pan you keep placing them in till fill the pan. then pour the melted butter and the mixture of sugar and Cinnamon over it and place pecans on top. Bake at 350 degrees for about 1 hour. You can chopped up the pecans and sprinkle over it also. I love it.

My mom use to make her own bread, but I found in the freezer section they have frozen bread rolls.

Penutbutter treats. Sounds wierd, but she mixed peanutbutter, honey, and cinnimon, then made a ball about the size of a pingpong ball, then rolled them in sesame seeds. They were so awesome, plus she would sneak in healthy things like vitamin powder and we could never taste it.
Also, boysenberry cobbler made with the boysenberries from our vines that we would all pick ourselves. It was so warm and sweet, and can taste it now. Nothing's better than fresh berries, you just can't duplicate it.

Mom would make this weird thing with green jello, pineapple, cottage cheese, walnuts and olives. I loved it! It also reminds me of church potlucks, or when I was sick it was a good comfort food.

My dad made me chocolate sundaes at bedtime, and when I would stay with my grandma before school she had the BEST homemade cookies! She'd always let me treat myself, even though it was for breakfast!

She made these things called Cream Cheese Cookie puffs.,

They were like a cake cookie but were creamy like cream cheese then she would take the little sprinkle balls and put them on top. Seriously with a tall glass of milk it just doesnt get much better.
