Pre teens love spa parties. My necie had one for her 11th bday last yr and it was a hit.
Colors such as chartreuse, pink, white and bright blue would make a great color scheme for this party. Colors such as pink, lavender and blue go good together too. But really really it's up to the party girl and her favorite colors. Get the solid colored supplies at the dollar store.
Set the party up into stations with a helper at each station.
Nails, Facials, foot soaks, make-up and hair. I would only select three stations. Be sure to have a fresh washcloth and hand towel for each guest.
Adding a more traditional spa experience with face masks with cucumber slices placed on the eyes and serve refreshing spa water - water, lime and cucumber- is something the girls think is really cool.
Tell the girls to bring a robe. One of the party favors could be a cute hair tie that they can use during the party to move their hair away from their face.
Until all of the guests arrive, provide a large sheet of poster board and markers for the girls to create a giant card for the birthday girl.
Once everyone has arrived, you can divide the girls up to begin the "spa rotation" moving from station to station. If you are using face masks, allow the girls to do this all at once. Apply the face mask, lay into a circle on the floor and place cucumber slices on their eyes...Ahhh so relaxing!
At the party the girls also created bath salts and body glitter. For bath salts you need:
Epsom Salts (pharmacy)
Soap fragrance drops (craft store)
Soap Dye (craft store)
Zip-loc baggies
Label stickers and markers
Before you mix the salts have the girls design their own label for their bag. Create an appealing, relaxing name and then decorate the label as well.
Then place 3/4 - 1 cup of Epsom salts into the baggie. Pick a color and add a few drops of color and scent. Seal the bag and mix it up.
For body glitter you need:
Aloe Vera gel
Small travel cosmetic container with a screw top lid
Fine polyester glitter (craft store)
Blank labels and markers
wood craft sticks for stirring
Have the girls design their own label for their container.
Give their body glitter a fun name and decorate the label as well.
Fill the container about 1/2 to 34 full. Sprinkle the glitter into the aloe gel until the desired effect is achieved. Mix with wooden craft sticks.
Be sure to take plenty of pictures. If it's possible to send a picture home with each guest, that's always fun.
Hope this helps. Happy Birthday =)

We did a "Detective" theme for my daughters 10th b-day. It was great because it was fun for boys and girls. It was very inexpensive!! On the invitations to the party, we let the parents know what the theme was, and had the children come dressed as little sleuths.
Some of the things we did were: When everyone was arriving, we had a finger printing station. We just got some index cards from the dollar store and an ink stamp pad and had all the children do little mug shots with the digital camera and have their fingerprints taken then we put them on the index cards with silly descriptions of each child with a goofy "crime" listing on them. (those we sent home with the children) They also picked up little notebooks and pencils (also purchased at the dollar store) for other activities later in the day.
Then we had a table with about 15 household items on it and covered them all with a sheet. We removed the sheet and let the children examine the items or "evidence". After everyone had looked at all the items, we replaced the sheet and had them all write everything they could remember in their little notebooks. The child that could remember the most items was chosen as the "Lead Detective".
Then we had the Detective lead the other children on a case. What we did was plant clues around the house and yard with riddles for them to solve. In the end the children ended back in the house and located the birthday cake hidden under the party table (on a smaller table)
Another activity we did was to have the children "talk to suspects". In their little notebooks, they went around to all the other children, asking their names, ages, where they were born, names of their pets, favorite movies etc. and wrote it all down.
We all had a blast with that one. It was very interactive and kept the kiddos busy. It's been our favorite so far.
Love thst209's idea too, I'm going to use that one this year.

i work at a pizza place and we have all kinds of birthday parties there. we run specials on pizzas so there's usually a deal for everyone. u could make your own cake and take it there so u should only have to buy pizza for the kids. also u could try a slumber party and let them create their own mini pizzas or sandwich stuff. u could even have a party in the park. there are all kinds of things to do on a limited budget. just use your imagination and i'm sure your daughter will appreciate anything u do cuz it was done with a love only a mother can give. good luck

A scavenger hunt is always fun. Have the girls decorate cupcakes instead of buying a cake. Girls love to do crafty things. Play dance music. Have a fashion show with some old clothing. I'm sure what ever you decide it is going to be great.

I always thought going somewhere would be cooler but probably I was selfishly thinking I wouldn't have to clean up afterwards. I agree with one of the answers in terms of staying home and throw a party. I've done that too. I've decorated the house inside and out and the end of the block so EVERYONE knew!! Have fun!
