Drugs are not the answer, they just trick your brain into sleeping when your body is not tired, this can lead to worse symptoms such as depression or even addiction to the pills.
I have had this same problem and it was due to a lack of physical activity. So if this is the case with you, just just take a nice long walk a few hours before bedtime or if you have time in the day, shoot some hoops or rollerblade, just something to release that energy and you will sleep fantastic.

Don't fight it - you're body will allow itself to sleep when it needs it. Get up and watch TV, read, or do a chore. I usually have a little hot chocolate for the melatonin.
If this doesn't work, on rare occassions I've taken and found Advil PM to be quite effective. I take one pill, instead of the recommended dosage of two. Best wishes for good nights!

Try this,
Get out of bed, get a pen and paper... draw a line in between, form 2 columns
On the left column, list out what are the outstanding matters you have to settle
On the right column, write down the actions you will take to resolve these matters.
Sometimes, it's cos we have too much in uor minds that we can't get to rest.

Try wearing an eye mask or lying down in a very dark room. The body will start to produce melatonin when it is dark which helps you fall asleep. I was told to try this and started a month ago and it works really well for me. Good luck.

try drinking warm milk or herbal tea before bed.
also, a hot shower might relax you. Try reading also.
never eat anything before you go to sleep your digestive system will keep you awake.
dont watch tv or listen to music or go on the computer or play video games an hour or less before you hop in the bed.
placing a lavender sachet next to your pillow might help also.

Oriental Pressure point. Using your left hand, fold all fingers under except your first two.(pointer and middle). Place those 2 fingers on the inside of your wrist of the right hand starting where your hand attaches to your arm. (middle finger on the crease of your wrist, pointer finger closest to your elbow, like you are checking your pulse )On the outside of your wrist, place a kidney bean, and tape it comfortably tight, In no time you will fall asleep. Really does work for me.
